No base station required: peer-to-peer WiFi Direct is go

The Wi-Fi Alliance has started the process of certifying devices that use its new WiFi Direct protocol.

I remember see a research group do this in Austria while I was there with mobile phones in 2007. I wonder if there was any correlation to there work. Or if it was something they had been working on for awhile.
