It's crazy, I grew up playing Maniac Mansion and never played Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island, but got back on the Ron Gilbert train with The Cave and Thimbleweed Park. Definitely am looking forward to this.

Never too late to go back and play them now.

In fact I think I am going to go do that and play all three. It’s been YEARS and I loved them so much when I was younger.

I've replayed DOTT and the first three Monkeys several times over the years, and they hold up for me. In my opinion, DOTT, Monkey 2, and Grim Fandango are no doubters for the Mount Rushmore of LucasArts adventure games and anyone who enjoys adventure games but hasn't played them should definitely check them out.

As long as we're resurrecting old adventure game franchises with their original creators, can someone get Jordan Mechner on the phone and tell him we're holding someone he loves hostage until a sequel to The Last Express comes out? I need a rotoscoped protagonist caught up in a mystery on an art-deco zeppelin traveling to an exotic location in the worst way.

God, they nailed the art direction. It's amazing how they captured the feel of the old pixel art.

That new style will last forever, too; it should scale to any display. It'll still look fantastic fifty years from now.

Eh, the art style is the one thing I’m not at all liking with this. However, it’s a legit MI, so I’ll hold my nose and be thankful this is happening at all!

I just wish we could have gotten a fully animated art style that matched the old box art for MI2.

I like the art style, but I find the animation and character rigging to be clunky. It really loses something vs frame by frame animation. I get that it's a necessary sacrifice for what I imagine is a fairly small team with a modest budget.

I like using 3D assets to generate sprite sheets, I think when done well it can be a good compromise between authenticity and efficiency.

Time to revisit the entire library! SSSOOOOOO many great games. It's been such a joy to play through them again with my children on the family computer thanks to the magic of ScummVM. I ripped the images from my own discs (which I'll never give up), but the stragglers I didn't own were pretty cheap and easy to come by with the help of GOG.com. :)

Day of the Tentacle is fantastically weird. My 11-year-old son just played through it and loved it. Now he's helping his 9-year-old sister through it and it's adorable to watch.

I am glad to see it coming to switch and a little disappointed not to see it on iPad. Looks like a great game to crack open when stuck on a long plane flight.
There used to be an iOS version but, for unknown reasons, it was pulled from the App Store and has never returned.

If you're really determined, you can install AltStore on a computer and use it to sideload ScummVM onto your iPad/iPhone. There are some downsides, but it does mean you get to play "Secret of Monkey Island" on your iPad on the plane - which is pretty awesome.
