This is a little worrying, but I still think cars with electronic keys are more secure than cars of yesteryear. In high school I was half asleep and came out of my college class. I went to what I thought was my truck, put my key in and unlocked the door. Put my stuff on the seat and put the key in the ignition. I almost accidentally stole a truck. Thankfully I noticed the missing clutch pedal. This one was an automatic. Calmly got out, relocked the truck, and found my truck a row over.
After some research, I found for that model year Ford only had about 40 different keys. I happened to find a truck with the same key pattern. There's only so many patterns you can cut into an inch and a half of metal.
