What achievement?
I just dumped about a million into weapons from the normandy shop guy, specter rifle, pistol, shotgun and sniper. Gave my hand me downs to my squad.
Figured time to upgrade as I was about to continue main quest going to Noveria, at level 30.
Is there things to avoid doing there? I read, but was confused, about taking hansar quest but then it closes other quests or something?

Seems like releasing a species that did what they did previously in the hopes that this time they could be useful allies is a fairly Renegade action, while making sure that they never threaten the galaxy again would be the Paragon action. That and using the gas grenades were the two major sources of Paragon points on my "renegade" (I prefer to think of it as pragmatic) character.

When/where does the X grade Master Spectre gear show up? I'm on my second run through and I'm seeing all VIII stuff. Also, where the FUCK is that last keeper?

Random hints

- Explore, do quests, explore some more. You're a fucking pussy until your powers start unlocking. Exploring is XP. XP is levels. Levels is powers.
- PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR PARTY! A whole assload of good scenes can only happen if you have the right member at the right time. (e.g. Wrex and Fist) and you will NOT gain paragon/renegade points for something your party did, so even though Wrex has his way, I gained no renegade.
- Want to score points with your party? Don't be good to them. Some of them respond to a more forceful or even threatening approach. "Be a renegade to a renegade" - Williams, Garrus and Wrex are renegades. But don't confuse that with outright rudeness.
- Unlike most other RPGs, your influence (Intimidate or Charm) options ALWAYS succeed. If the option is available, it WILL work and almost always benefit you. As to what works best, that depends as much on who you're dealing with. Renegades respond best to intimidate, for example. If you're dealing with a crime lord, do so with pistols and threats.
- You wanna be a bad-ass? Be one. Certain characters will notice if you're all charisma and no action.
- Physics Threshold has a meaning. It's where a hard hit does damage. See those geth? See your Bloody Great Tank? Floor it. It'll kill them or severely hurt them and bypass shields.
- Thresher Maw killing: Circle strafe it with the Mako, use the big cannon. Machine gun doesn't do shit. KEEP MOVING. You can retreat to higher ground for repairs if needed.
- As a general rule, sticking with either intimidate or charm, rather than using both, will serve you best with the same NPC.
- There's an assload of roleplaying which gives little to no gameplay benefit. If you want to get positive outcomes from that (XP rewards mostly) you need high intimidate/charm/both. If you see a charisma option, USE IT!
- Conversation options will open if you have the right codex entries or if you've been told the right thing. An example is gryyvat gur nqzveny jub vafcrpgf Abeznaql gung vg'f n Ghevna wbvag qrfvta
- In at least one quest I've come across, the NPCs will tell you a completely different story if you're playing Paragon or Renegade. They pay attention and will try to manipulate you.
- Usually a good character can take an evil quest and make it good. Likewise, an evil character can take a good quest and make it evil. Generally, take all quests regardless of your RP alignment. At the very least, there's a neutral way to finish every quest.

Specific hints:
- Lbh'yy or nzohfurq ol n ercbegre. Here's an interesting glitch: If you sell something in one career, and then start a new file (or maybe even just switch to, not sure yet) those items will show up in your new career's buyback menu (assuming you haven't sold anything yet). This would theoretically allow me to sell top level gear to my character which would otherwise be unavailable at that level.

Yeah, but good luck affording any of it with a new character. -- View image here: http://episteme.meincmagazine.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif --

Ah, but here's the thing: It only charges you what you sold it for. For example: The survivor IX armor is currently listed for 30,000. I daresay you can save up 30k long before you hit the levels required for those items to spawn. No, you can't afford them right away, but it's going to make hardcore/insane much easier if I can buy level 50 gear at level 10.

A question on weapon upgrades:

I did a quest a little while ago (maybe around level 20) for an Asari (I'm pretty sure it was the Asari diplomat in the embassy lounge of the Citadel), and after the quest was done she offered payment but I got angry and demanded more, so she said she would unlock some groovy weapon upgrades for me.

Thing is, I can't work out what these upgrades are. The shops all seem to be selling the same gear as ever. Anyone know?

I am pretty sure I didn't even buy a single weapon or armor upgrade until the Master stuff showed up. Everything I picked up along the way was always better than anything in stores.

I still don't think the game is anywhere near as good as other people do. It's still better than most games yes, but I had more fun playing KOTOR and Jade Empire. Mass Effect really is just the same thing over and over again. Go to a system, scan planets, land, drive, enter building, kill stuff, go to next system. The only thing that changes is whether the landscape is brown and rocky or white and icy, or which of the three building models you enter. Your party members are not nearly as interesting as in past Bioware games, I don't feel any attachment to any of them nor feel like they are even important to the story. It seems like they spent more time writing Codex entries than anything else.

Yeah I finally lost my patience for the fucking Mako last night on Nodacrux. Some severely nasty cliff-faces on that planet.

Frankly, I hope they ditch it for ME2. Level about half the mountains on the planets, give the Mako some fucking wings, and make the planets a bit more compelling.

I mean the storyline planets are stellar (no pun intended), just seriously awesome, but holy fuck hour 15 of trying to get over/around a mountain... it starts to grate. It also upset me when it clicked last night, and I realize my current playtime of 24-25 hours or so would probably be closer to 15-18 if it wasnt for all the goddam Mako driving. I can live with repetitive bases with repetitive enemies... but for the love of God, dont make me spend 7-10 minutes jacking around in the clown car just to get there.

If you are the right distance away the thing wont even go back in the ground, it will just sit there and helplessly shoot those slow green shots at you.
