Carnage isn't worth 6 points, IMO, but then I think Vorcha Sentinel is far and away superior to Soldier. I assume you're working on a 200 wave challenge, to which I can only say good luck! We're all counting on you.

I found, with the soldier, it was best to alternate short bursts of flamer with a gun. Detonating with carnage hits your cooldowns pretty hard so I only did it on clusters or bosses. Bloodlust keeps you survivable, repeated flamer -> gun -> flamer stacks worked out very well. You could also go melee spec and use flamer to start an attack, cancel it with a heavy melee, reapply flamer, cancel with another heavy melee...

Whatever works. I used a pistol or SMG because of that sweet sweet power amp weapon mod.

The Reegar+Flamer combo is one of the most potent dps combos available. I haven't played with many vorcha as of late, but I assume that the dual fire (both concurrently) is still possible. I can't imagine it was intentional.

I would use a reegar, but it's just too obvious at this point. It was ruined by all the toolboxes in the early days. Now I have a pathological aversion to that build.

That's a good point ... probably a 6/6/3/5/6 build would work better than putting six in Carnage. What can I say - I'm a sucker for fire explosions! Maybe I'll burn a respec card ...

Nope, just the 10 Extracts to complete the Rebellion DLC. I finished Monster long ago with Krogans and Batarians. I'm at either 6 or 7/10 extracts so far - can't remember which.

I've been carrying the Eagle with the Power Amp and Piercing mod. Nice balance between rapid fire and accuracy at range.

Yeah, I don't use it for that reason. Except, of course, on my male Quarian Infiltrator. But I haven't played any Quarians since finishing the Machine Mastery challenge ages ago.

I never dual fired, actually never even bothered to find out how it worked, AFIK that's been fixed for ages now anyway. Just it's one of the best weapons for using with Incendiary ammo when you want to make use of the DoT stacking (with Warp or Flamer optimally).

yeah the funny thing about the Reegar is it loses dps because of the firing rate bug (basically ludicrously high ROF weapons lose damage because it can't proc fast enough or something), they fixed the dual fire bug, it's irrelevant. Still the most overpowered thing in the game even though it's not doing the statistical max damage it should be.

The current solo platinum clear record, I believe under 21 minutes, is KV with a Reegar. It's a pretty fun run.

Last night I decided to forgo challenge grinding and played a few golds as classes that I have mostly 200 waved in already. I forgot how fun this game was when you play for fun. :)

Had a ladies night and played as all asari - Commando, Valkyrie, and Huntress. Warp ammo, power speed/power damage increasers, the whole nine yards. I forgot how fun BE's were - especially when you can generate them yourself - I have been playing a ton of weapons and tech classes lately. The commando's BE radius makes atlas/primes/etc, anything with a bag of hitpoints really, effectively a spawn killing tool. I was the Lone Survivor on Goddess with her - which also reminded me of how squishy that character really is when they enemy has nothing else to shoot at.

Despite having the same number of hitpoints, the AHI is much better for the cloak. It also helped that I was playing with a Geth Prime. Talk about an optimal pairing. You can just stand out there and kill things. The amount of damage the warp + cloaked channel + power damage consumable + warp ammo + hurricane X (with armor pen) dish out on an armored elite is incredible.

And the valkyrie. Oh how I love that class. Super sturdy, shield recharge while you are exploding enemies, warp, skate, etc. I like her even more than the fury.

I got the AHI recently and i agree that it is a lot of fun. Dark Channel specced for damage with cloak is damned lethal.

Just for you josh i've played only silver so far tonight. I extracted both times. I did end up using missiles but i think wave 10 collectors hack circle and multiple banshee overrun while doing a wave 10 escort warrented it.

Nice ... did you find it more enjoyable than playing bronze?

No. I did well enough that i'll go back. I'm rapidly promoting so the experience boost to get 16+ will help. There was slightly less idiocy than some of my usual matches. I'll stick with it but i suspect i'll always go back to bronze for easy fun.

I played a silver last night where I was the only one attempting objectives.

I got them all though a teammate did at least run over to res me twice while I was trying to capture nodes where you have to squat down and do nothing and I was toasted.

But overall, they were just off running around doing their own thing.

I hate those matches.

On the other hand, I did play in another one where everyone camped the same area at the start of each spawn and we pwnd the mobs squarely.

That was awesome. I wanted more but it was time to stop.

I tried to join two ARSians that were in game but both were in a lobby and afk. =/

My Origin name is the same as my name here. If anyone who wasn't playing when the thread was started but is playing now wants to add me, I'll pop in from time to time.

Also, I opened a metric ton of 5k boxes last night on the suggestion earlier in this thread.

I did get four weapons leveled to ten, but then it seems that that's all the weapons that offers (one of each class). When the character stop too, I'll have to move to the next box tier I guess.

How do I know exactly when that is - does it stop adding a character or weapon at the last card?

Thats it - the Widow!

I love putting the penetration mod on (even though the gun has it already, it makes it better) turning on hunter mode with my geth sniper and then getting headshots through walls. I've had people say "hey man - how you walling?" and I tell them "you should play this character some time and you'll see."

Regardless, it's awesome fun.

If it has one flaw it's that it can only take 2 mods. I consider choke mandatory, so I'm only left with one slot to play with.

Armor DR applies to each pellet (8) fired from a shotgun, for an effective DR of 400 points per shot. Use either shredder or high velocity barrel; optionally go with high caliber barrel and an ammunition mod with armor piercing properties: AP, Cryo, Drill, Warp ... according to your character build.

Weapons, Weapon Mods, and Gear are all removed from the drop pool once you max them out (so I think what happens is the pack rolls to see what card is going to come up, let's say it hits 'Weapon' then rolls for which weapon, and lands on one you already have, so it grabs a random consumable).

All Character cards Silver and above are moved from the pool when maxed out, but Recruit, Veteran, Specter, and Reserve packs can still drop the uncommon character cards for XP (12,500 or 62,500 for Recruit/Veteran cards, up to 250,000 in Spectre or Rseerve packs).

I think the PSPwill rarely, if ever drop a base character card?

Some one feel free to correct any mistakes I just made, I'm sure they're there.

The last part of your first statement can't be right because it's never not given me either a character or a weapon - once the weapons maxed, it was a character every time.

But maybe it still hints at the eventual outcome - it would be consumables all the way across.

Or maybe it'll just give character cards till the cows come home because they have xp attached?

If that's the case, I should have already moved up.

I think I'll move up.

Each pack has different percentiles in it, though I don't know what they are. And per BioWare, the Silver and Gold character cards are yanked from the pool once they max out.

I've only got UR weapons left that aren't maxed and I usually get packs full of consumables, or sometimes a 250k XP character card (always a common). If you've got the Common (uncolored) cards maxed, then yes, you should be buying Veteran packs, or focusing on Spectre/Premium Spectre Packs. If you want to burn though the bazillion character cards, then Perhaps Reserve packs.

Looking at your inventory on N7HQ you should definitely start hitting Veteran packs, or save for Spectre Packs. You have enough depth that Silver should be comfortably doable (unlike some of the carries I've seen recently, ugh). I expect that Gold should be doable as well, depending on your teammates. Some of the standard human kits are terrifyingly effective, almost independent of the weapons.

You say that now, but there will come a day when you won't even bother with bronze when starting a level 1 character.

I played silver for the longest time until I had to finish the map challenge. Discovered gold wasn't as bad as I expected, and now only play silver immediately after promoting a character.

not bragging, honest

Gold can still be very frustrating to pug even when you are a good player. As a player with plenty of gear who didn't have a lot of trouble running the solo silver/gold challenge (which I assume qualifies as at least a 'decent' player), I have issues on gold when I am not a 1k health plus character. Your team mates are simply too unpredictable and do too many stupid things.

I can usually pull just about any team of at least 2 others plus myself through a match - all I really need is for the enemy to shoot my teammates instead of me for part of the wave and I can kill pretty much everything else. If I could have 3 undying orange traffic cones in place of players, I would probably do just as well. The issue with the sub ~1k health is just bad luck. If you happen to bumrushed by 2 or more phantoms, you can't even tuck and roll before you collapse in a heap if you are offhost. And given how you basically can't die or be synch killed if you want to guarantee a finished gold, that makes it tough.

I played 3 gold matches last night and failed to complete all three. I was synch killed in round 6 as a destroyer while hacking (with no support of course). Then everyone died. Made it to round 6 with just one other person. I was dropped in (as were at least 4 other people, who would just stand still and die at landing zone - clearly host was having some sort of peering issue as most people weren't actually connecting properly) to a match with one other guy. We duoed it to wave 6, but he just kept dying and not rezing himself. I dragged us through wave 6 until I was synch killed (destroyer mode, why are you so slow ?!?!?! :( ). Then he obviously did nothing.

Third match was the last straw. Made it to wave 3 before everyone died. I could solo a single wave with a consumable or two, but at that point - why bother. If those fools can't make it through wave 3 without dying, what are the odds they are gonna make it to 10?

Gold is easy when everyone is competent. It is difficult when they are not. That's why I prefer 1k plus health (or 0.7k + dr). I do less damage with those classes (in general), but I can solo a wave if people suck.

You know, I love my Turian Sentinel/Phaeston build more than logic would dictate. I tried him with various other weapons, but I keep coming back to the Phaeston.

Is it me, or is the Saber hard as hell to aim? It seems to me like it's wildly inaccurate - I hit about 25% with it, even when I swear I'm aimed dead center. Maybe it's lag, or something.

I find the saber, much like the slug shotgun I can't remember the name of, must have red target cross hairs before they seem to hit anything. So sudden movements always make you miss even if the cross hairs are seemingly lined up. For me I always get much better results if I make a mental note to shoot ever so slightly slower than I think I should.

It's pinpoint accurate at any range, but it's as finicky as a sniper rifle. I think it's hitscan, so transverse motion is no problem as long as you have red cross-hairs.

The Saber is a fantastic gun. As others have indicated, it is a 'take your time' kind of gun. There is a deliberate rhythm to it that is about a beat slower than its actual potential fire rate.

Going directly from Phaeston to Saber sounds like a frustrating prospect. They are not alike. I enjoy both guns, but they are not at all similar.

Apart from the vorcha i didn't find Blood Pack Mastery too bad. The vorcha are ok in small doses but don't try to do them back to back. More than anything the bloodlust mode visual was the thing that bothered me. Once you realise that flamer melts things and that yes you do actually have to dodge projectiles with this class you're good.

Machine mastery took me a long time for some reason. Looking at the list now apart from the fact that i's a lot of characters there aren't any that i couldn't just get on with.

I'm still playing. If it's the weekend i can be around for america's early evening.

There's just something with the Ghost + Harrier that destroys my rhytm. I love the harrier on any other gun class like the destroyer, etc, but the Saber just works MUCH better for me. Cloak, headshot, headshot, headshot, cloak, headshot, headshot, headshot. Cloak melee, headshot, headshot. But I'm one of those crazy people that started and specced out overload and never did respect when they buffed it. It's also specced for maximum damage on both assault rifles and melee all the way, so it's a class canon and I eat packs like it was candy, so no good if other people are grenading...

Think I did something like this last I used it...
Narida Ghost Spec
If that actually counts correctly, that space, including amps and the Saber will do about 1500 dmg/shot + headshot and after primed with melee bonuses. Pretty bad-ass for a semiauto-noscope-sniper :p Wish I had better amps for even more dmg-output though. I have no idea what the harrier would do, but with the saber I count 75% of the shots as headshots on anything that has a head.
