Keep losing your key fob? Ford’s new “Truckle” is the answer.

The implementation of this is a bit disappointing tbh. When I read it I though the belt buckle was it's own fob. If it was just to allow you to unlock the door and start the vehicle they can probably make a much smaller version that doesn't even need buttons on it.

That said I actually think the idea is rather good. If someone were to just 3d print a case that could hold the internals of a fob, they could make their own version of this.

This does lead me to question why key fobs aren't thinner. It's a small PCB with a 2032 battery, yet it's 0.75" thick (19mm, metric people). I guess you have to fit in the hidden key. Still, it could be much thinner to reduce pocket, or bet buckle, bulk.
new captcha just dropped: say “belt buckle bulk” 5 times fast to prove you are not a bot

I guess Fuckle was taken? They missed a chance for greatness. But after all this is the era of truckling.
"No, no, no—this thing keeps your keys and your buckle together. Keys. Buckle. We should call it...the Cuckle!"

"Sir, we definitely should not call it that."

"I dunno, I kinda like it. Let's see how it does in focus group testing."

Those groceries aren't gonna haul themselves!
Good thing those grocery prices have been coming down so much.
Boy is all this stuff going to age as poorly as all the corporate "support" and virtue signalling around BLM.
While I hope there is an eventual backlash to the anti-anti-woke whining, this isnt an example of it. Its ridiculous and comical Ford is selling a culture / image with the F-150 that this perfectly aligns to.
Spending 100k on one of those things still is absurd imo but sales numbers dont lie (car loan delinquencies however)

My car came with a keycard fob that fits in my wallet; I thought it was whatever but it turned out to be a must have for me… I can never forget my wallet as my car won't work. 😂

I’m guessing most car companies deliberately make fobs larger than they need to be, both to reduce how easy it is to lose, and to try and create a feeling of quality/value associated with the vehicle itself, whenever the customer picks it up. Since instinctually at least, heft = quality. Double points if big enough that other people can see your company’s logo hanging off a person’s belt/purse, etc.

I'm guessing they hold the patent for that application, but that seems like a brilliant idea!

Am I missing something???? Every time you want to unlock your door you need to undo your belt in public?

No, most cars I've seen with key fobs you simply touch the door handle and it recognizes that you want to unlock the door. It then looks for the fob to be nearby to trigger the unlock.

EDIT: I should add fobs that don't require use of the key. The ones that have push to start on the dashboard.

Just gently grind against the door handle, the metal buckle reduces signal strength.

I gotta be honest - I'm not into the truckle specifically, but I do like the idea of being able to integrate my car fob into some kind of wearable accessory😅 I'm sure there's some inventive way that it could be used/abused to steal my car, but what's life without a little risk?
Watch/phone should be able to do it. Tesla already has it I think.

Neat. Does it still have a key? That would honestly be cool.
