Challenging others to bets online is something that's come up in the past few years, frequently by people who label themselves rationalists, and is based on the premise that if somebody isn't willing to wager money on their side of an argument, then they don't believe their own points and therefore lose the argument. I consider it an illogical bit of sophistry.
Sounds like they want to try and win the argument without having to think about the facts.

took me less than 30 seconds. here's a quick quote from him in the article:

You're still posting highlights of the article, instead of a simple link.


You're making more work for yourself and more work for anyone who wants to read it. Or even check if the article exists. Why are you making extra work for everyone ?
