Or would it be possible that both Samsung and Apple have produced equipment with deficiencies and that informed users like knowing about all issues from all manufacturers?

Unless you are a fanboi, of course, then such issues are completely different.

Audiophiles have long been moaning about the lack of 'hires' audio on the iPhone, and there've been a lot of rumours that Apple will finally pander to them. Well, it's happened, but unfortunately all the music got shifted up to 48kHz leaving only a residual high-piched hiss in the audible spectrum.

[Edit]Given the response I should obviously make sure to avoid complex jokes in the future.

it's entirely possible they were focused too much on trying to produce as many units as they possible could, and while doing that they either let QC slide a little or lowered their QC standards altogether to reduce the amount of devices heading for the bin, which in the end could irreparably damage the companies reputations.

I have a similar problem with a Dell Latitude notebook but it is more of a clicky sound along with the hissing. Not sure if it gets worse with load as it would get drowned out by the fan noise. I've had this with both the 3rd gen and 5th gen versions (SSD in both).

Would be interesting to find out more about this problem as it is really distracting when you're in a quiet room just reading/writing. Hopefully this will shine a light on other devices with the same problem (kind of like the deathgrip thing).

What... what does that even mean...

High-resolution audio is a load of snake oil. The science behind 16-bit 44.1 kHz audio is solid. Higher resolution audio is useful for recording and mastering, but verifiably useless for listening.

Those who disagree with that statement should probably stop listening to their equipment and start listening to the music ;)

Apple is going to have to isolate the a10 processor, because this "hissing" is a security consideration. it may be communicating with the outside world to transmit secret data that you have on your phone.

The hissing is a stream of binary bits encoded to sound like static noise...
has anyone recorded the hissing, and then using your "Cryptologist" hat, decode this ARG for information on the lastest hero for OVERWATCH?...

Geez, that doesn't sound good...and the way it pulses in a pattern would probably keep me awake (I had to replace a cellphone charger one time that did a similar thing when the phone finished charging and would wake me up).

Reminds me of my netbook -- which I could tell when the WiFi was active because I could hear a high pitch noise under load (capacitor whine?) that went away if the wireless was disconnected.

There's a new iPhone and, predictable as sunrise, there's a reported problem that may or may not gain a -gate suffix. This time: some iPhone 7s seem to be making an audible hissing noise.

Snakes-in-a-phone-gate?

I wonder how much of this is the person? Some people do have exceptional hearing.

I think it's a lot to do with the person. I know I've had to return MANY Bluetooth headsets over the years due to a constant hissing noise even when they were not outputting audio. Other people were fine with them but it would drive me crazy. Motorola doesn't seem to his so now I only buy there's.

Yes, under no circumstances are you to hold the phone up to your ear. Who taught you to use a phone that way?

Spudley[/url]":3swb8h77]I reckon it's the sound of the iPhone desperately trying to compensate for its lack of analogue audio.

I get the joke - headphone jack and all.

But of course the iPhone does still have an internal DAC. Many people have claimed "oh, they removed the DAC for space" or whatever. But of course the iPhone still has speakers internally. Speakers are analog. So it has analog audio and it has a DAC.
