mcmnky[/url]":650uf2xi]Very cool, and very interesting.
But not a speed run. I can pick up a book and flip directly to the last page. That doesn't make me a speed reader.
Depending on the category, I think it is a valid any% run.
Many speed runs skip things.
So, why not skip everything?
when a speedrun skips something its a shortcut built into the game this is basically pouring over the code and forcing it to play the end scene. your not playing the game at all then
playing the game fairly means not using any outside cheats but if a dev builds in a shortcut thats still a fair game because your not violating the gameplay.
edit: still an impressive hardware hack.
Not really, there are skips that are very likely not intentional. Like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwHD3jv8ILs
It's not required to play the game fairly, except the speed run category (e.g. glitchless) says so.
There is all kinds of money glitching, item duplication or w/e going on.
TBH I don't like glitching too much, because it's sometimes hard to follow the run then.
Like the wall glitches in sonic games
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhyw-zu-9ZY .
thats my point doing it like they did violates the gameplay
things like world pipes in super mario bros and wall glitches you found those without cracking open the code,
these guys cracked open the code like an action replay and forced the ending to play then called it a speed run, its like no thats not a speed run you didnt even play the game!
im all for glitches and the like as long as they dont massively break the game
item/ money dupe fine by me thats just makin the game a bit easier by exploiting the logic of the game.
npc trickery again the npcs are acting that way according to the gameplays AI soo still fine
in both cases its still technically a cheat but its not gaining some unfair advantage via outside influence and is instead exploiting some subtle shortcoming of logic so its more like out-smarting the game which is imho playing fairly in a case where its you vs the game.
