He traversed over 700,000 kilometers—430,000+ miles—which is nearly the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
I think you mean nearly the distance from the Earth to the Moon and back.

[moonsharksays]Moonshark so excited about moon that Moonshark forget everything about math. Moonshark is sorry and has make fix.[/moonsharksays]

Sadly not uncommon in Russian men of that period. Not exactly a rare sight nowadays either.

All is forgiven Moonshark! <3

---Insert obligatory "In Mother Russia moon math mistake makes you" joke here.---

There is no evidence (or even allegations) of that on the Internet. There are alcoholism allegations about Gagarin (the first soviet cosmonaut) but not Titov.

So Gagarin and Titov were crashing cars like crazy? Does this mean that all drivers in Russia have to pay tribute to the first and second Russian men in space? Also, paying tribute to Titov with dash cams because he was basically the first to shoot photos and take footage in space? Seriously though, this is a great article. I had only known very little about Titov other than he was the second to go up.

American astronauts were also regarded as "impossibly brave" by the general American public.
They were heroes.
They were also regarded as "a little bit mad".
Heroes get away with things....John Glen tried to rein in his fellow astronauts from getting a bit too stroppy..
John Glen was a similar hero to Gagarin and Titov.
.
Cosmonauts were obviously regarded with total awe and admiration in Russia.
Look at the welcome the Soviet Union gave Yuri Gagarin when he managed to get back from space alive.
The Soviet Union gave Gagarin a "Gazillion and one gun salute" and pinned the medal "Hero of the Soviet Union" to his chest.
(You can see the actual footage of the Russian artillery pieces firing in honour of Gagarin in the film The Right Stuff.)
Edit:
When I said "a little bit mad" I was referring to how Americans regard the Navy Seals or the British regard the SAS.
People so well trained and mentally and physically tough they can't be regarded as "ordinary people".

msadesign[/url]":11thphqa]Titov wasn't first because the second flight would be much longer than Gagarin's solo, and it was felt that Titov was much stronger, at least according to the excellent spacerockethistory.com and related pod cast (highly recommended as well).
The story mentions that Kamarin felt Titov was better suited to the longer second flight. I'm sure there can be more than one reason and both sound like they'd have been important. Gagarin was definitely a PR choice as well.

A person’s health is too important for them to not get a second opinion. Statistics show that thousands of people get injured or even die a year due to medical errors. Services such as https://secondopinions.com provide second opinions for MRIs, CTs, X-Rays and other studies. When I needed a second opinion, Secondopinions.com provided a reasonably priced service that prevented me from becoming a statistic. They also gave me the code “SY15” to take 15% of the entire order.
