This is exactly what Republicans want. Break the government to the point the even if a full on Dem Congress and President can't fix shit as the SCOTUS will block everything and what can be done to fix this will have little impact in 4, or 8 years. Legit it will take 50-100 to undo what Project 2025 is doing. Congrats Republicans you won. Now enjoy your house burning down with you in it.

Which would be fine if it was just them. The whole world is going to burn*

*full disclosure: it was going to burn anyway but is happening much faster now and the charred ashes of the "house of global civ" will have far fewer bits of foundation remaining than if we had not ever elected the felon.

According to reports, Tidmarsh was placed on administrative leave on Friday as an investigation by the inspector general for the Department of Health and Human Services looked into claims that he had used his regulatory authority to target Tang.
Those are the only two words that surprised me in this piece.
Somehow DHHS still has an inspector general?

It used to be that drug companies would get registered with the FDA first, and this would open doors to reciprocal registration in other areas. It can't be long before the delays in assessment leads them to choose register in Europe first and leave the US clown show to ride along without the benefits of drug advancement.

There's so much dumbfuckery going on in the Trump administration that we may need a new way to tell time. It feels like they've managed to squeeze in 9 (nine) days of corruption in a calendar week's of time!
The last 10 months of Trumpster Fires have produced a decade worth of blatant corruption on regular time scales. So...more than 9 days worth per week. Much, much more.

It was a long time before trump. He made the rot at the heart impossible to ignore.

The american empire has been awful forever
That's like totaling someone's car and then going like "come on, you already had that small dent on your rear fender, your car has been trash for a while now"...

Now, seeing is believing of course, but if he carries through with it and actually takes on Big Food, that would be a substantial win for public health.

Just a little bit of nuance in an otherwise bleak spectacle...
Sigh... I'll take one for the team and bite. You'll let me back into the tree house afterwards, okay?

Junk food, and obesity is a (cough) huge issue. If the nutjob in charge takes meaningful action and lasting action against junk food that would be a long overdue positive step for health. Very positive. Really good.

But the net balance of said nutjob's insane other beliefs vs junk food? I'd rather have obese friends that will die at 55 than the friends I didn't even meet because they died before I was in kindergarten.

“We are witnessing nothing less than a clown show at FDA right now,” one venture capital investor told the outlet. “For the sake of patients, we need a stable and consistent FDA!”

Hmm ... venture capital investor ... was that a typo? I suspect the intended word was patents, not patients.

Even though RFK's track record on vaccination and other issues so far does paint him as a complete kook, we should not let tribalism and good-vs-evil thinking get the better of us. To his credit, he's lately been making noise about cracking down on junk food, the main cause of metabolic syndrome and thereby killing orders of magnitude more people than the measles could ever hope to.

Now, seeing is believing of course, but if he carries through with it and actually takes on Big Food, that would be a substantial win for public health.

Just a minor detail, but you forgot to provide any actual evidence to support your glorious carpetbagger's activities being beneficial. Do you also consume Flavor Aid by the barrel?

The Trump administration really does consist of the worst dregs to soil the face of the West since Hedley Lamarr assembled his army:

Well....the white house is, I think, short of pugs, indian agents and mexican bandits.
Other than that, however, it looks like the've got the full set.

Why am I envisioning this as Trump trying to pull that Hedley and then having a stroke and keeling over though?

No, you see, that is an easy mistake. The photos from Haloween night will confirm that many of his supporters were dressed as Indians, Mexicans, and there were even a few in black face, I'm sure. Any pugs present are probably just incidental. Ever since they knocked that wall down the strays have just been wandering in and out as they please.

Either that, or Trump is going full balls to the walls in his pursuit of a Warhammer 40k-esque position as the God-Emperor of Humanity and has decided that he needs Battle Pugs, much like the Atreides in the glorious 1980's Dune movie adaptation.

Agreed. Big IF, so we'll have to wait and see.

Interesting arithmetic, but keep in mind that metabolic disease is the #1 killer today. Measles probably don't even make the statistic.
Measles doesn't make the statistic because of ... wait for it ... vaccines. Guess what your hero is trying to get rid of?

Measles? You mean the disease that was almost declared eradicated in the USA thanks to childhood vaccination programs? That measles? Yeah, probably isn’t a significant cause of childhood mortality. But give RFK time and he can see about changing that.

That already started a few years back in part bc FDA has been in slow burn decline for years. EMEA first (or MHRA first) has been slowly becoming the predominant thinking since…IDK…maybe 2017/2018…? (Definitely predating the pandemic by a few years, for certain.)

A follow up article, about how drugs are approved world wide, would be valuable.

Who can people look to if the FDA is distrusted?
Today — and it’s been this way for at least several now — it’s EMEA followed by MHRA (UK) followed by, if I recall the last presentation I saw on this correctly, the FDA — and that was just before the pandemic.

Notice, for instance, that in Europe and elsewhere (except some 3rd world countries) many chemicals the FDA allows in sunscreens and other cosmetics have been banned, in some case, for decades. FDA has long struggled to get approval to remove such chemicals because politicians get enough money from the chemical industry to put a kaibosh on such efforts in the US.

The Aduhelm and Eteplersen approvals told industry insiders that there was something rotten in the state of Denmark. FDA, well before the current, profoundly unfunny, farce began. EMEA is definitely the most respected dog at present. Soon, we may also be looking with more respect at the Chinese FDA than the USA FDA. "Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!"
