Ebola outbreak now third largest recorded and “spreading rapidly”

He noted reporting from the Times finding that the delay in detecting the outbreak was, in part, due to samples from infected patients being transported to a national lab in Kinshasa, Congo, at the wrong temperature. That task had previously been managed by USAID. The Times also reported that the US previously played a crucial role in logistics and delivering supplies, notably personal protective equipment, such as face shields, respirators, impermeable coveralls, and surgical hoods—supplies that health workers in DRC lacked for weeks at the start of the outbreak.
JFK Jr. is surely trying to one‑up Thomas Midgley Jr. in causing the most deaths worldwide by neglect and just being evil – hopefully he would also try designing his own polio bed to strangle himself in…

Thank you to Dr. Mole for a carefully detailed, yet heartfelt, narrative about another public health crisis that US leadership wants to either ignore or use as a blame game against those who don’t embrace MAGA-MAHA evils. Somehow her perspective helps make this nightmare of hostile ignorance less frightening and depressing.

Yeah...you can't even call him a kehoe (kehoe's are experts that misuse their expertise for profit, see Ladapo, Oz etc al). He is just an evil asshole.

You can take care of it far away and cheap or just wait until it reaches your shores and costs multiple times more.
That only works when you are talking about "real wars" - when our massive defense industry and the affiliated media conglomerates will rally. Yes, better to fight over there today than fight here at home later - so arm up!! But spending money/effort on medical stuff over there? Hell, no!! Congolese dying makes no difference to our executives here at home.

The Trump administration has also said it is funding the establishment of up to 50 treatment clinics in Ebola-affected regions of the DRC and Uganda. But Uganda, which has only reported two imported cases from DRC, responded by saying it was “not aware” of any such plans.

Ah yes, the tried & true Trump strategy of irretrievably fucking something up because of some petty hateful grievance (USAID), making up some BS about how they're fixing it, and then when things stabilize on their own to some worse condition, putting a gold Trump decal on it and acting like they just invented sliced bread.

The actions of the Trump administration have been absolutely terrible, however, Every single other country in the world is also to blame for not having more independence from the United States. This applies to everything from war to energy to disease monitoring/control.
We were everyone's friend. Why would they expect us to turn around and stab them in the back? Especially concerning EBOLA which any idiot can quickly figure out is cheaper to contain than not. This seems a bit close to victim blaming. From what I've been reading, the world has figured this out now that the USA is no longer a trustworthy nation but they really couldn't have seen this coming and I doubt they'll make that mistake again. Next time, they'll call China. At least their government is stable.

I’m still utterly baffled that the destruction of USAID faded into the background. I feel like the bottom line of anyone who supports Trump is that they are okay with taking food out of the mouths of millions of kids that will now starve. They support criminally negligent homocide on a global scale. I don’t care what other policies he might have, nothing balances that out.

Since it spreads via behavior generally associated with humans caring for one another, I don't think Americans have much to worry about.
I’m a healthcare worker. I know I would be terrified but I’d step up. I think most of us would.

The US had long been a global leader in Ebola responses in the region. But that is no longer the case given the Trump administration’s demolition of the US Agency for International Development (USAID)
More specifically, it was Elon Musk's recklessness:

In February, Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) in effect shut down the US Agency for International Development, the main conduit for US aid, saying it was “time for it to die.”

US 2025 GDP per capita: $90,000.
DR 2025 Congo GDP per capita: $871.

Just look at the numbers. How much taxes do you think DRC's government can collect in a country this poor? How much resources can that corrupt/incompetent government channel? Financial independence and capability to deal with "everything from war to energy to disease monitoring/control" is a complete pipe dream!

DRC is poor for numerous reasons. And ultimately, it's up to the Congolese people to sort it out themselves. But when acute crisis hit, rich nations do have a responsibility to help the masses who cannot help themselves. It's just human decency. As well, it's also what Christians are called to do. And numerous Trump/MAGA supporters loudly profess themselves Christians!

The above should be reason enough. And then we have the inconvenient fact that diseases can spread. And when they do, channeling travelers returning from infected regions through one airport (Washington Dulles) isn't going to stop anything. This admin has learned nothing from COVID.
