Hunh. Weird how we “just found out”. I guess that a major first world power with outposts in country has zero awareness of local happenings. Perhaps the phones were out.

We all really need to make getting these folks out of office and their appointments a high priority. All of us. Show up and vote.

I get your point but "meh" is a bit callous, no?
Just because an outbreak doesn't reach the mainland US doesn't mean it's irrelevant. 65 deaths is just the start.
The OP to this response fits in well with the Elon Musk DOGE school of “bad things can’t happen here if we pull support for other nations”

Every Tesla purchase makes him less accountable though. Buy two to save the earth, since those jet turbine generators powering Grok are expensive to run.

Let's be fair here, the government of the DRC is heavily authoritarian and cares little about the populace that it oppresses beyond their ability to extract resources to enrich the oppressors. It does not surprise me in the slightest that it took this long for Africa CDC to be made aware.

I wish the people of the DRC the best and hope this outbreak is contained quickly, effectively, and considering the DRC, humanely.

Those things you say are true.

We are talking about an agency engaged in disease surveillance in order to be proactive, given the worldwide danger of Ebola outbreaks.

My question was specifically why they had not surveilled anything significant events in the past 10 days.

$500,000? That's it!?

I know purchasing power will make it go further and that there are other funding source. But, that's really not much.
It's easy to forget just how far $500,000 dollars can go outside of the US.

It's a huge amount of money for medical supplies and drugs in most countries.

Hantavirus cases at 42. Americans in isolation and CDC is last there after pulling out of WHO because we're cheap? God Bless America, and god help the CDC and the FDA for that matter.
Whoa, y'all ain't cheap, that ballroom gonna cost close to a billion dollars. It's all about effective use of tax dollars
