If you think E3 stopped being fun because they got rid of booth babes then maybe you need to reevaluate your life, and join us in the 21st century. It's not that great right now, granted, but it's where I keep all my stuff.

E3 stopped being cool when the internet started ruining everything.

Well, and the booth babes ;P

In the interest of gender equality I propose that future gatherings feature “Booth Bobs”
Men of Ars, stand up and be counted.
Thy time has come to save gaming. Stand tall with a cudgel and the right to bare arms

I know you are joking, but there was a rather famous (at the time) gathering at E3 last decade (forgot who threw the party) where there WERE booth guys as well as babes. It didn't go over well, and many who complained didn't realize how stupid they sounded since they had never uttered a word about the female-only variety (and some literally only complained about the male's being around specifically for that event - and some decided sounding sexist and/or casually homophobic was a fantastic extra).

I stopped following certain podcasts/etc. after that.

E3 brings in people from all over the world. I think the idea is to reduce travel and gathering of people from around the world in a single venue/area while scientists work on a vaccine. That’s why local sports events and such are less likely to be cancelled than something like E3.

This is not accurate. Local events are being canceled, and it's just as important. Everyone needs to just accept that this is the reality right now. Slowing the spread (flattening the curve) happens on a local level.

My intention wasn’t to downplay the importance of cancelling local events. I keep hearing people argue “why aren’t they cancelling local events?” Like you say, they are cancelling local events; more each day. I was trying to find reasoning to point out why bigger events have been cancelling first. I totally agree with you.

I remember the good old days of learning new stuff and reading about all the cool new games/systems. Now that stuff is leaked months before, companies have already pulled out, and E3 is just a zombie.

Sure I'd go if I could just to see it once but I'd honestly rather go to PAX.

Definitely agreed. E3 is a press event, and PAX is a community event; the expo floor is just a small part of what makes PAX fun.

I have lifelong friends I met at PAX Prime 2013.

Allow me to clarify. "Booth babe" should be read as synonymous with an E3 era where it was still a fun, loud, crazy and gamey in-your-face consumer event. No exhibitor skipped E3. Everyone went, even the smaller gigs. Everyone was vying for attention and literally hundreds of games were revealed. Buying the print gaming magazine of your choice the month after E3 was the absolute gaming highlight of the year. Those were the glory days of E3. The modern E3, where everything leaks on the net before the show anyway and many big gigs aren't even going, has nothing on that glorious era and I will not miss this show one bit if it doesn't take place this year or ever again even.
