Dropped external HDD, wondering if I can use online backup instead of replacing it

So tonight I dropped a 6 TB external hard drive from about 30 cm height onto the floor. It wasn't running or connected to anything when this occured. I have not yet plugged it in.

I am wondering if it makes sense to have it be permanently connected to my desktop computer from now on and then keep the whole thing backed up with Backblaze or similar to hedge against the increased risk of failure, instead of replacing it immediately? Or is that a waste of time because continuously indexing the drive or whatever to keep it backed up would wear it down faster? Should i just write off the drive?

I heard (read on the Google AI results) that you shouldn't run full tests on it immediately. but are there tests I can do to get an indication of how badly damaged the drive is?
