It doesn't need a definition for republicans, so the judge is right.

DEI is code for coloreds or anyone otherwise non-white.

If they feel that any system is not being 100% bent to advantage whites, particular white (fake) christian males, then just call it DEI and do away with it.

This is pretty clear for all to see by now.

Don't forget non-straight. Just because you're white and male doesn't make you part of the Republiclan.

Scientific or data based reviews also not needed.

The purpose of the current administration is to completely debilitate and essentially destroy the US government as the people have known it.

I'm not one prone to hyperbole or "feels" induced commentary - I simply think this is also plain for most people to see.
You simply don't do this much structural damage to the functioning of a government if you intend it to improve or survive long term.

In the meantime, however, the Supreme Court had shifted the ground on a couple of issues.
This is one of the (many) sickening aspects of the last few months; the Supreme Court now seems more likely to undermine the valiant effort of most of the lower courts, instead of upholding and reinforcing them.

Not that it's the job of the Supreme Court to agree with lower courts, but it is their job to stand for the rule of law and support the lower courts (and the entire country) by doing so in as non-partisan a manner as possible.

That really shouldn't sound woefully optimistic, and I hate that it does.

Racist, arbitrary, and capricious is precisely what was sold to MAGA voters.
indeed, the election was purely cultural and based on how our fellow humans should be treated. How our tax dollars should be spent was the farthest thing from anyone's mind.

It really hit home with me after the election when a very wealthy neighbor started talking politics at me, uninvited. He was of the opinion that MAGA won because people were "sick of having woke jammed down their throats". My response of "what does that have to do with how our tax dollars are spent?" thankfully ended the conversation.

"I'm sick of having things 'rammed down my throat.'"

Said the man with a MAGA hat, and MAGA shirt, and MAGA shoes, and MAGA bible, and MAGA truck. It's not like they'd be fascists if they had an ounce of self-awareness, though, right?

Using data from the University of Florida Election Lab, a new analysis by the Environmental Voter Project shows that 85.9 million eligible voters skipped the 2024 general election, far surpassing the 76.8 million ballots cast for Donald Trump or the 74.3 million for Kamala Harris.

If "Did Not Vote" had been a presidential candidate, they would have beaten Donald Trump by 9.1 million votes, and they would have won 21 states, earning 265 electoral college votes to Trump's 175 and Harris's 98.

As in most US elections, the real swing voters in 2024 were those deciding between voting or not voting...and they overwhelmingly chose to stay home on Election Day.

LBJ's quote still holds up decades later:
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

Separately, Trump v. Casa blocked the use of a national injunction against illegal activity. So, while the government's actions have been determined to be illegal, Young can only protect the people who were parties to this suit. Anyone who lost a grant but wasn't a member of any of the parties involved, or based in any of the states that sued, remains on their own.
Yes, the 6 conservative-leaning bumblefucks in robes decided that national policies only affect one person at a time and must be treated as such.

Hopefully this ruling can provide ammunition to others for filing their own court cases. This kind of ruling should apply nationwide, but thanks to the six chucklefucks on SCOTUS who seem hell bent on giving Trump ultimate power, it doesn't.

I can only hope that every court ruling - SCOTUS included - comes back to bite the GOP in the ass down the road.

You don't rule like Republicans are ruling if you expect any institutional turnover.

The Democratic Party is constantly reminding me of the Communist Party in Germany for the first few years after 1933. They figured the political pendulum would swing their way in the next election, so the strategy was to lay low and let the political winds take their course.

OH NO. Not a stinging rebuke! If MAGA had any shame, they'd be taken aback at this, but alas they do not.
What gets me is that this path we're on is going to kill a HELL of a lot more conservatives than it will "the other guys", simply because the programs that are being targeted that "help the minorities" are the same ones that help the working poor, who are disproportionately supporting someone who votes for the GOP.

Never before in the history of our country have so many people been so short-sighted to so willfully commit suicide by Lemming Syndrome, it just boggles the mind.

No one thinks about the consequences of their vote anymore.

I take ideas and ideals very seriously, since I taught many classes on ethics for many decades. The Ideas, as Plato argued, are beautiful, good, and true. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are all superb specimens of Ideas in Plato's sense. That is a compliment, because, well, Plato, ok? "Idealism" is not a negative term.

But in institutional settings "DEI" is often a debate, not about ideas, but an administrative model known as vanguardism, and what powers such agencies should hold.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanguardism

Vanguardism is profoundly cynical about human beings. They must be led.

I do not find that Idea beautiful, good, or true.
Now tell us how you feel about Civil Rights legislation.

Even if you're white, male, and straight, you might not have voted Republican. THOSE people are in the crosshairs as well, though so far the more easily identifiable "others" are taking most of the fire.

"The Public Officials [at the NIH] in their haste to appease the Executive, simply moved too fast and broke things," Young concluded, "including the law."
THAT is a line that needs to be more widely disseminated! :judge:

You taught ethics and apparently wrote "That is a compliment, because, well, Plato, ok?"!
I'm afraid we have moved on a bit from pro-aristocratic, anti-empiricist Plato.
Or at least I thought we had till 2016.

Easy:

DEI hire is baseically anyone who is NOT a straight white Christian male under the age of 65 that speaks with a standard American English dialect. Any deviation of that is considered a DEI hire- regardless of qualifications.

Of course they can't admit this openly, so they won't.
Meh. Give 'em a year or so. They'll get around to saying it openly.
