I dunno. First, it's an FT article - with all the baggage that it entails. Second, the hype and hubris of the meal corresponded well to the hype and hubris of the interview.
Although the pregnancy status of the reporter is definitely in the too-much-information-thank-you category.
Many culture reporters interview in this conversational style. It provides a place for you to be sitting at the table with them, having a chat. I find it more entertaining to present the details of the people as a story, rather than just the facts.
