Civilized nations do not allow Americans past their borders without first ensuring proper vaccination records. Their tourist dollars won't counterbalance the health risk. Grant your visas carefully.
The thing is, I'm fully up to date on my vaccines but I don't know how I'd prove it. They were all gotten at different times from different providers, some of which closed up shop years ago. There's no central record keeping for this stuff.

Ignoring Alberta, I would suspect this is down to people being more educated on the risks and having a publicly accessible health system, which won't ruin you. The system does have its issues, but at least it won't make you have to choose between illness and having to declare bankruptcy (I accept this is an extreme scenario).
"Ignoring Alberta" -- hah, as a U.S. citizen, is this the same as saying "ignoring Texas"?

Various science fiction authors over the years have written of societies in which birth control was mandatory and that being a parent was only possible if you achieved a licence.

Once upon a time, I thought that was a horrible thing.

Now: I'm not as sure :(

This has happened in the USA before, as has forced sterilization and forced births (and forced conception, rape). Medicaid is explicitly prohibited from reimbursing for any sterilizing procedure unless it's a indirect result of an otherwise-necessary procedure (eg hysterectomy due to cancer), as a direct response to this long and horrifying history.

If you're wondering why this wasn't covered in school, it's because the people it happened to weren't considered "people" at the time.

Danielle Smith.
I keep seeing people blame her (and she is a total fuckwit an unscrupulous narcissist who deserves a lot of that blame) but it's not just her. The entire UCP caucus is complicit. Yet they're still not the real pieces of shit in this situation. That designation belongs to David Parker. That ghoul and his "Take Back Alberta" organization (Take it back from what, exactly? Alberta has been a conservative stronghold for four decades!) is why the UCP is in power. Drinks are on me when that fucker dies.

edit: accuracy

Also would people who had say the measles have to get vaccinated? It could all get very confusing.

Quebec made them $150-180 CAD unless you're part of a vulnerable group. A lot of people I know aren't getting vaccinated if they have to pay
Did not know this about Quebec. I am sure my wife would not have gotten her COVID-19 shot if she had to pay. It took convincing, even with the option of getting it free and without a separate appointment, together with our child.

With the way measles resets your entire immune system they need to get all the vaccinations again. So yeah.

Edit: It's actually more complicated than this... if they had the MMR vaccine before it appears the immune amnesia doesn't happen. I guess you're correct, it's confusing.

I'm part of the Gen-X cohort's whose initial MMRs in the late 60s/early 70s had completely lost its efficacy. I had myself tested earlier this year (not necessary to get an MMR) and had no antibodies whatsoever. I'm so glad I got an MMR shot this summer with all of the vaccine denial shit going on right now. If you're a very young Boomer or older Gen-Xer raised in the U.S., you should probably just get an MMR vaccine if you haven't done so recently.

If your state health department works with https://myirmobile.com you may be able to see many/most/all of them there. It's worth checking out at least. Your health department may be able to provide the records in another form. Other possibilities would be any higher education institution you attended since you likely had to prove vaccination status to them. And if a conglomerate has been swallowing all the hospitals and medical practices in your area, they might have the records, too.

I've just been getting every vaccine I'm medically eligible for while I still can. There are plenty of ways to make it impractical to obtain a vaccine without outright banning it. You might be surprised by some of the medical conditions that qualify you as being at a high risk of complications from an illness and therefore eligible for a vaccine.

I'd argue that's not the only issue with that post. I've been trying to parse it in a way that makes sense since it went up. My best guess is that it came to us via Google Translate (or a similar service). You can tell they're trying to make some point, but I can't even decipher it enough to know whether I agree or disagree. 🤔

Thank you SO MUCH Andrew Wakefield, RFKJ, et al. Now children can learn about infectious diseases FIRST HAND. None of this namby pamby "read about it in a book" for our kids! Some of you may die....

The entire anti-vaccination movement is another reaction to the scientific revolution of the last two centuries. The revival movements in this country throughout its history have always been a reaction to enlightenment. WWII and the A-bomb resulted in the Red Scare. Landing on the moon resulted in the Christian Conservative Alliance with the post-Nixon battered GOP. The upshot of that and the Roe vs. Wade decision resulted in the withdrawal from manned space exploration, and the killing of the Super Conducting Super Collider. The internet generation happened as the decline in religious affiliation accelerated, but it has recently leveled off. The current anti-vaccination movement along with all the post-Truth propaganda flying about, is a reaction to all of the factual information out there. The only way to counter all that data is to discredit it, and the conspiracy generators have been working overtime for decades on that so the lazy and weak-minded will vote against their own best interests. Sadly, it will probably take thousands of dead children before the irrational behavior is reversed.

My home province of Alberta has had more cases than all the the US. Our Premier loves the US and actively encourages separatists who would love for us to join the US.

Sigh.
I hear your 'sigh'...and I raise you with my 'groan'...a groan for virtually every single major decision reached by our current federal government, decisions that I almost ALWAYS disagree with.

It is like they do it on purpose.

You know, not a bug...but rather a feature.

Given that Alberta alone has more reported cases than the entire US, the under-reporting would have to be massive for this to be the case.
Think of how many people in the US aren't going to a doctor unless they go to ER. So many people wouldn't even recognize the signs of measles and only severe cases are likely to get attention. Especially since the unvaccinated probably would want to keep it secret even if they knew they had it.

I'm a young Gen-Xer (if there is such a thing), and I got an additional MMR 7? 8? 10? years ago because of this. Some of us were only given 1 does in the late 70's/early 80's, and I wasn't sure.

The crazy thing is, things weren't even close to this bad yet when I got it. I never thought something this essential could ever be controversial.

I get that the internet giving everyone access to important information has not created a heaven on earth quite yet, since completely deranged people can now find a community of like minded, supportive, equally deranged losers to help them feel normal. What took me by surprise is the number of people who have made a career out of peddling deadly misinformation. Was it utterly naive to underestimate the number of enthusiastic death merchants so completely? Aren't most criminals reluctant to kill anyone for money? RFK jr, obviously isn't but so many others? We're evidently a flawed species but taking back the asylum from the lunatics is surely within our power. There are precedents.
It doesn't feel real to them because they're not good at empathy and they don't have to personally witness the suffering, it's just numbers on a spreadsheet for them.

Another solved problem that idiots reversed, with the predicted results. And now they and their ignorant contrarian allies are in control of a powerful government. The odds of a Great Garbage Avalanche have jumped immensely..
No problem, we can roll it into a ball and launch it at the sun.

So, um, USian or Canadian gov’t? There’s a lot wrong in with the current Canadian government, but I think they get away with it because people are comparing them to the Trump crowd.

For context, Alberta also made COVID shots $100 CAD.

Although not usually so targeted as that, it’s funny (sad) how often a province fails to spend enough money on preventative and primary care.

That said, Smith is absolutely a degenerate human who deserves every ill she inflicts on others.

My favorite theory is a bit of a ripoff of Idiocracy. The smart ones stopped breeding because they saw a future where people suffer, and the stupid ones kept right on pumping out a unit every year, despite not being able to care, feed or clothe the little morons.

Tell me this ISN'T happening. Please. I could use a good laugh, since that's all I see happening today.

I'm waiting for France and Germany to require all visitors from the US (and perhaps now Canada) to spend 3 days in an on-airport quarantine hotel receiving doses of all the basic vaccinations. They can no longer trust US vaccination records after the US Justice Dept moved to drop the prosecution of Utah dentist Michael Kirk Moore.
That would encourage a lot of non-maga U.S. and Canadian citizens to visit Europe. Just bring something to work on while in that hotel for 3 days.

Fortunately, I live in Oregon. Our state is part of the West Coast Health Alliance along with California, Washington, and Hawaii. A couple or so months back I was able to walk into a local pharmacy without a prescription and get a free drop-in COVID booster along with my flu vaccine because of that. Several Northeast states have a similar alliance.
