Hi everyone:

I have a couple of Win2k Professional clients with SP1 here at work that are getting some curious application errors. I have tried looking in TechNet/KB and other Microsoft avenues but haven't found an answer so I'm hoping you guys can help me out. What happens is we try and close a window(say AutoCAD) and receive the following error: "The program cannot be closed. If it is being debugged, please close the debugger." Needless to say these clients do not have any development software on their system, and this error doesn't occur in any one application.

Any help will be much appreciated,

Jason.

Jason,

My own personal experience with this error message comes after an application it has locked up. I then have to bring up the Task Manager and end the program, it stills there and doesn't end, and when I try to end the task again...boom....I get the error message. My guess in your situation might be that when you are exiting an application, they lock up, and when a user tries to close it again, the message will appear. The best solution might be either to tell them to try closing it once and be patient (I know, I know it's hard to do...) or to clear out unnecessary items out of the Startup menu, and in the Run key in the registry (HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run).

Also I noticed you said that they had SP1; did you install that service pack, or did that SP come on Win2K? Service packs and software/hardware sometimes can cause plenty of errors too, and you might either want to look into uninstalling the service pack (if applicable) or install SP2. Let us know how it works.
