I'd be shocked if most Ars readers aren't getting options, but figured I provide the link showing they are discounted. In fact the discount is considered deferred income now. So don't weep for CEOs with options on poorly performing stock.

I'm not sure about the current laws, but in the past, you can trade in your underwater options for new options at a lower price IF you reset the clock. I think those can't be discounted.

He didn't get anything from the options.
They are options to buy stock at a discount or get it free when the vesting period expires. He doesn't own them until they vest, and hence he didn't get any dividend from them.

Except the dividends prop up the stock price. So he benefited by keep Apple stock out of the $300 range.

Icahn's request for an additional $50 billion turned down. Man he must have really got burnt on Apple stock. Not that he can't afford to get screwed by Apple.

One place I worked set up in the PI. Communist rebels stole the factory test gear. They had to hire mercenaries to get it back. However the VP who put the facility there enjoyed the whore houses.

People set up in the US because of security and a functional legal system. And a somewhat educated worker base.
