Alaskans will be flying blind after NSF decommissions ocean monitoring network

I'm so tired of winning.

While this is going to hurt far more than just Alaskan fishermen, it's incredibly frustrating that they probably all uniformly voted for this and yet somehow this will be Biden's fault.

That's already the political framing re: screwworms, just one of the many other major Trump administration fuck ups currently destroying the US food industry.

As for why NSF is pulling the scientific hardware, spokesperson Cassandra Eichner said the decision “aligns with the NSF’s wider strategy of a nimbler approach to prioritize support for evolving scientific priorities and emerging technologies, as well as smart lifecycle management within its research infrastructure portfolio.”

How to say your budget has been cut for ideological reasons without using the words "budget", "cut", "ideological", or "reasons".

But the message from the White House is clear: See no climate change, detect no climate change, speak no climate change.

I’m so tired of them fucking-around, and all of us finding out.
And not a single drop of self-awareness to be found among those who voted this mess into office.
It's a common myopia - government projects that benefit me are critical and necessary, but government projects that benefit other people are frivolous and wasteful. Naturally, when my chosen candidate god-king talks about drowning the government in a bathtub, he will only cut the wasteful projects and leave the critical ones alone

And according to St. Elon (whose cuts to US international aid programs already place him among history’s largest mass murderers), anything he cuts is by definition wasteful! So much winning!

Sorry, I have zero fucks to give. I’m saving them for people who didn’t want exactly what they’re getting. Alaska voted for Trump by 13 points over Harris.
Unfortunately all the people who did vote for Harris are also getting exactly what The Land of Sarah Palin voted for.

And that is how you say absolutely nothing, while still using a whole lot of words.

EU here, made me wonder, with all those billions Musk slashed, surely the US debt has started to plummet now?

These guys are raping the US. Zero respect.

Plenty of money for ballrooms and dropping bombs on Iran.
For the "National Defense" is the IRL SpiffingBrit infinite-money glitch to hoodwink taxpayers. Make the taxpayer scared of something--and they'll be happy to future in-debt their children for temporary illusions of safety-theater.

I wanted to translate that into plain English.

The problem is it keeps coming out as just two words, and one of them might get me banned from the forums. The other word is, of course, "you".

Project 2025 cast government-sponsored oceanic and atmospheric research as a regular source of “climate alarmism,” particularly within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its various agencies.
So glad that I'm being saved from "climate alarmism".

What's next on their list? Dumping Fahrenheit and switching to a new scale where there are only 2 reading, "cold" or "nice"? Because if you don't want to alarm anyone, reporting that Phoenix had its 30th "nice" day in a row is the only way that I'm not going to be alarmed.

I'm not wasting any tears on Alaska. It's a waste of time. They'll just carry on voting against their interests as per usual, and Murkowski will sell out the country like she always does. Plus I am pissed that all these Trump states are now looking at us with shocked pikachu face, as if they didn't bear witness the dickhead's first shambolic administration.

But critics say the decision to take down the ocean observatory network, which consists of some 900 deep-sea instruments distributed across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, aligns with Project 2025, a conservative blueprint for governing prepared by the Heritage Foundation and, to some extent, enacted by the Trump administration.
I know this is a partner site but the fuck is up with this bullshit phrasing, Inside Climate News do fucking better.

This is such a perfect example of vacuous biz-speak that I had to find out if Eichner is actually an AI. Nope - LinkedIn says she has been a PR person for the NSF since 2020, and before that for the Naval Observatory since 2018. That does mean she was appointed during the Trump administration. She is a follower of Anthropic, so she probably used Claude to write this. She describes herself as "Communicator, creative writer, current fork survivor".

Started reading the article without paying attention to the byline. That sentence was the precise moment I realized this was a partner article.
