The email reportedly tells employees there will be no repercussions for attending the protest

Translation: We cannot legally fire you for protesting, but say goodbye to any advancement opportunities or possible pay raises if we see you there.

I don't doubt some things will change, but the culture will probably return after a year or two when the heat dies down.

Employee Support: Our decisive action will be to fire or pressure to quit all those who bring up our horrible sexual harassment problem.
Listening Sections: We are going to get everyone together so we can find the people who bring up our horrible sexual harassment problem so they can be "decisively acted" upon.
Personnel Changes: We're going to fire any people who have impeded our effort to "decisively act" upon those filing horrible sexual harassment claims.
Hiring Practices: Clearly our HR team has not been effective enough at quieting and firing those who are sexually harassed, we will hire more to do better.
In-game changes: Sure, we'll remove some bikini armor so people won't think we're sexist.

Employee Support. We will continue to investigate each and every claim and will not hesitate to take decisive action. To strengthen our capabilities in this area, we are adding additional senior staff and other resources to both the Compliance team and the Employee Relations team.
Given that Bobby fired a woman who was being sexually harrassed by his buddies, this quote isn't nearly reassuring as you might think.

While I hope that this actually leads to meaningful change, I am doubtful these endeavors will even last through the next Blizzcon.

I would like to see what the fate of the employees who partook in the 2019 Hong Kong walkout relative to those who didnt. Only been 2 years but thats enough for raises and minor promotions to happen. I suspect they would face less blowback than the current protestors though, since the current protests are a cultural criticism "closer to home" in a sense.

Given the complaints brought by CA, they didn't have any chance at those anyway!

Also coming from Bobby Kotick : "A difficult and upsetting week". What he means is that he's upset about his next insane bonus prospect.

Poor Bobby he had a "difficult and upsetting week", try thinking about the victims who probably had difficult and upsetting months or years because your only concern is the amount of your bonuses.

Jim Stephanie Sterling has posted on this, and I’m glad. When I first heard about this, I thought there was a non-zero chance that this would be the thing that finally made them (Sterling) detonate with rage.

Finally? JSS has been talking about this sort of thing for years and years.

I think you might have accidentally your /s tag ... o_O
Given the context I thought it was pretty obviously /s...but perhaps it's helpful regardless. :p

I mean ... one would think that ... but one must actually KNOW what was written about what Jesus did and didn't say in the Bible, to know that it was sarcasm. Sadly, many Trumpkins, Qers, and other nerdowells have never cracked open a Bible in their lives, and have NO IDEA what it actually says. They only know what their preachers and Fox News TELL them it says. So ... yeah ... not always clear when sarcasm from that crowd (which I am assuming you are not) ^^;

That was what I meant: I was relieved to discover they had survived the news breaking, since they get extremely fucking pumped when they’re vindicated on something they’ve spent hours and hours repeating.

Earlier this year, I sent an email requiring all hiring managers to ensure they have diverse candidate slates for all open positions.

Oh! He sent an email! Problem solved!... We need an updated South Park BP "We're sorry" videowith Kotick's face.

A year+ of virtual work has taught so many managers when a meeting could have been an email.

Unfortunately it has not also taught C-suites when an email should have been empathy and a heartfelt meeting.

I was in the first beta and I have played World of Warcraft since the release.

I canceled my subscription Monday. "Other" is an option Blizzard gives you if no other listed reason is suitable, and you're allowed some space to type in your reason for leaving. I cited the lawsuit.

I enjoyed the game for what it was. But sexual harassment and toxic bro culture all the way up the management chain is beyond repugnant. I'm done.

In before The Lurker Beneath slinks in and says that this isn't news-worthy and violates journalistic standards.
Gamer Gate really brainwashed a whole cult of folks into thinking Journalists are obligated to only write some sort of equal list of pros and cons on subjects, and never ever report anything other than the product releases of companies.
