As if the trump administration remotely cares about the law when it limits their ability to attack critics.

They'll do whatever they want anyway, let it go through the courts regardless of the validity, and that is punishment by itself. The eventually overturned verdict doesn't negate the damage done by these tactics. Our own government needs to be hit with anti-SLAPP measures and that's ridiculous.

Ted Cruz Rips FCC Over ABC Broadcast License Review Following Kimmel Joke: ‘It Is Not Government’s Job to Censor Speech’

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is a MAGA loyalist, but he thinks the Republican-controlled FCC stepped over the line in accelerating the renewal process for broadcast licenses of Disney’s eight ABC-owned local TV stations — seemingly in response to a joke Jimmy Kimmel told about Melania Trump on late-night television.

“It is not government’s job to censor speech, and I do not believe the FCC should operate as the speech police,” Cruz told political outlet Punchbowl News about the agency’s demand that ABC filed to renew licenses within 30 days. Variety has reached out to the senator’s office for additional comment.

Looking at the number of Disney+ subscriptions that got cancelled the last time they capitulated, adding in that their original settlement bribe didn't even get them two years of peace, and considering that Trump's lame duck status grows daily I'd expect the new leaders at the House of Mouse to have a bit of steel in their spine. Additionally, caving to government pressure now only makes their position weaker against future pressure.
Considering their gross profit last year exceeded $36 billion I think they can tell their lawyers to teach the weirdo lackies remaining at the FCC where to shove their churro.

John Oliver summed it up best last time Carr wanted to "punish" ABC/Disney:
Reminds me of the outro to Killing in the Name. More corporations need to take that stance against this bullying regime. Ordinary citizens don’t have the resources to take on the government in court, but corporate behemoths do.

What's your source? I've seen guesses and overall trends, but nothing substantially attributable to that in a way that could be distinguished from redhats dropping because Trump-san doesn't like Nasty Jimmy.

Specifically, where did you look and how were ebbs and flows assigned to reasons? The data around that time was used by all sorts of people for tendentious reasons.

I need a shower, I agree with that putz on something.

Words are cheap though, ask Lindsay Graham and all the rest of them that somehow find a bit of untrammeled skin on their brow to form a new furrow. They do the dance...act concerned, then do nothing to offer any real resistance. It must work because they all stay employed.

Witnessing American corporations and institutions suck up to Trump is one of the most vile elements of the current American nightmare.
I was not surprised, honestly. You don't get to a position of high power in a multi-billion dollar entity by climbing the ladder on principle.

The system rewards the crooks and the ones able to bend (or avoid) rules for greater returns.

Disney has the clout to do it, and the lawyers to back them up. They thoroughly humiliated DeSantis and I hope they do the same here. Someone has to take a stand and stop this nonsense, and having Mickey tell these clowns to suck it would be fun to watch.

I'm sure he's received a call.

Ya know, it used to mean something when a public figure contradicted themselves when evidence of said contradiction was readily available. Now that only applies to Democrats.

Yes, the main vile element to me is that people for some reason thought that they would.

Which IMO is the fundamental problem destroying our society because most people do not seem to have a clue how any of this works. Until we as a society realize that wealth and morality are not the same (infact usually inversely correlated), there is not a foundation to build any solutions on.

I’m just curious, what do these people think is going to happen when he’s dead?

All this asskissery is going to have zero value in a few more years
They think the pardons will remain valid and no one will have the chutzpah to go after them.

Historically speaking, they’re almost certainly correct.

I doubt Disney will cave. First, there's more at stake than just a single show as the FCC is going after the broader station licenses. Second, Trump and Carr are now way overplaying their hand. They just don't - pardon the phrase - have the cards. Extremely unpopular and the law itself is so blatantly against them.

We see the same thing over and over and over again. They get a lot of attention for filing some legal action that ultimately gets thrown out for being completely ridiculous, but by then the news story has moved on to the next ridiculously stupid thing they've done.

Go back to Trump 1.0 where he lost in court on pretty much everything. One of the best Jon Stewart segments was when he covered the difference between what they say in public - lies - versus when they get into a court and face perjury. Story is always different.
