Which Maxx unit? I see quite a few of them. Always curious to see what is out there.

I'm not sure. It's the boss' call, as he's the expert. Will update if / when it arrives.

I don't need anything fancy - there's no turbo & no electronic throttle - but I do have VVTi and a knock sensor, so I need a step up from the base model.

A lot of the real performance upgrades to my beast (when performance = zoom and not feet above pavement) mean I need to do a delete on it, and I don’t want to do so.

I am eying better charge pipes and maybe a CAI for a little more juice.

I am keeping the cat - with a 2.5" system and only 1.6l NA, the cat is very little restriction.
Fitting a cold air intake to a mid-rear engine is challenging - there's no cold air coming into the engine bay! Induction is currently via the RHS side vent, but it's a long path. I think I can do better.

The ECU will have a patch harness so I can swap between it and the factory ECU.

Were you formerly @IncredibleHulk or something similar? When did the name change go through? I think you mentioned needing to change it when you sold the green Wrangler, but I thought you were making a joke :)

edit: the "when performance = zoom and not feet above pavement" made me wonder what kind of truck you have, and then I saw your post on the previous page about being stuck in a snow bank so I started putting 2 and 2 together

Yeah, I was. This name change was part of a running joke on the Discord, and I'm stuck with it for 6 months. :D

Yup, I now have a '21 3.0L diesel Gladiator (named Toothgnasher). The parts for the 3.5" lift came in last Friday.

My plug in to the cigarette lighter air pump gave up the ghost, anyone have opinions on a replacement, or one of the combo battery jumper/air pump?
I had a combo jumper / air pump for a while, but the battery on it stopped holding a charge. Presumably newer battery tech is better, but I currently have two separate rechargeable devices: a boost pack, and an inflator. I will say that rechargeable is the way to go nowadays, it's just super convenient to not have to wrangle a wire to the cigarette lighter from each of the four wheels. Especially since an actual cigarette lighter is sometimes not easy to access nowadays. Mine has one, but it's behind the glovebox, like on the firewall.

That's like ordering you to get into an accident. Remember when you could buy cars which had lighters in each door?
It's just a 12V outlet, there's no actual lighter. They definitely do not expect you to be smoking in my car, for whatever reason. My previous car didn't have a lighter either, for that matter, though the 12V outlet was still approximately where you'd expect it to be in the center console. The 12V outlet in my current vehicle is clearly meant to be a place to plug in something and try to be able to hide the wires. Other than that, it has more accessible USB-A ports, and that's it.

Ditto for the Fiata.

As to the question at hand? I bought one (12v tire pump) from O’Reilly’s about 10 years ago, whatever brand they were hocking at the time. Still works fine. I think they do Slime-branded stuff now, and I don’t know how well it works. Reviews appear to be all over the place.

Last weekend, I got to put a good bit of dirt underneath ZJ2.0. I need to get out and do this more often. Nothing too nuts-- the sum of my recovery gear here is a pair of traction boards and a shovel-- but y'know, out there somewhere.

The C30 needs some love too. Wash day for the old girl - 17 this summer!
I almost bought one 15 years ago, but went with a Fit instead. I've had zero complaints about the Fit (well, it was a tight squeeze when we had two carseats in it but now we've got a single backless booster) but sometimes wonder if I chose poorly

That's a four-door, right? That was probably better with little kids than the two-door C30. The back seats of the Volvo are surprisingly roomy though. Full size car seat fit in the rear with no problems. Even I sat back there for decent stretches, which is more than I can say for any of the Porsches with "back seats" I have owned.

Yeah, it's four-door but it's only 13.5' long (I think the C30 is ~6" longer) and I was looking at small hatchbacks regardless of door count. The Volvo was my "I wonder what it would be like to drive an overpowered small car instead of an underpowered one" option but in the end I couldn't justify the price difference :(

It's like a go cart!

I don't know what you paid for the Fit but the version my wife bought was $29,500 in 2009 dollars, or ~$45,300 in 2026 inflation adjusted dollars. Since then non-gas spend on the thing has been an additional $40K in nominal dollars...works out to ~$2,500/year over the life of it. Not sure how the Honda went, but it hasn't been the cheapest car to own.

From memory I think I paid ~$17k in 2011 dollars, but it's the basest base model and the internet says MSRP was $15,100. Maybe another $2k in taxes? I was a year into my first real job with no obligations beyond a fairly cheap rent so I could've managed paying 2x that for the C30, but I figured home ownership was just around the corner and the price difference was a big chunk of potential down payment. Financially it was definitely the right choice but every time I see a C30 I think about what could've been.

I've been driving the MR2 to work all week - it's a fun thing through roundabouts, although somewhat raucous at full throttle. It may be time for a replacement muffler soon.
However, I've been bitten by 80's lack of technology - the lights stay on when you turn off the ignition. I turned on the parking lights going through a tunnel yesterday, and forgot to turn them off when I got home still in daylight.
So I had an extra cup of coffee at home this morning while I charged the battery enough to start.

Only a mild one.
I plugged in the charger (3 extension leads from the shed!), then went back inside.
Logged in to work remotely before my normal start time, made some minor tweaks, kicked off a build, emailed work, then finished my coffee.
Car started first go after 40 mins on charge.

Got to work 50 mins late but feeling virtuous (although the new build had issues - sign reversal can do that to a conttol system 🙄).

Get either a rechargeable inflator or one that clips to the battery terminals; the 12v adaptor ones have horrible duty cycles, and the wiring is awkward or barely sufficient for the amperage.

If you’ve booster cables, replace them and the dead inflator with a combo pump and jumper. Wolfbox makes a decent one.

Ta da!

YefasPl.jpg

Sadly not a blue sky day (edit unlike yesterday) which would have made a better picture but still, was thrilled to get it back. Got in, popped in my bluetooth adapter to the trs jack and rocketed off with my favorite current ear worm blaring.

Now hopefully the part replacement from the above post 'solves' the problem for good. They put in new transmission fluid as well. Whats crazy is I was out the door for about 550 usd (granted I provided the impossible to find part).

Related to cars, does anyone use Hagerty's to insure their car(s)? I'm thinking about switching the insurance on my Jeep Wrangler from my main insurance to Hagerty's since it is a pleasure vehicle that is only driven 2-3k miles a year, and Hagerty's seems to be better for it.

My Coronet is insured through Hagerty. Since I've not had to file a claim, though, I'm honestly not sure if I can tell you anything useful about it that you can't get from their quotes. But feel free to ask if you've got questions.

Yep, they have insured all my classic Porsches. PCA people who have filed claims with them say they’re great and easy to work with. Their customer service is all stateside so that is nice too.

Just had this discussion with my father in law; he is switching soon for his ‘04 Terminator.

Yellow (or maybe orange) is normally my favorite color.....well, not when it is in the shape of a gear on the right hand side of my dash

fYUEJF3.jpg

Fucking fuck fuck fuck. This either involves, well, not sure what or something I don't even want to think about. Literally just on my way into town up pops this (again), drive indicator gone. Drives all fine and dandy but came on again after stopping and turn it off/on but then went off again after another off/on cycle. Drove 'normal' in standard and sport mode but not sure what would have happened if I tried to get on a highway and got up to a higher speed and if I would have not shifted up as I got up to 110kph (limit) - my local roads I only hit the speed limit (cough) in the 70 range.

On the upside, the missus is very supportive but sadly she can't source a transmission/gearbox.
