“No-fly zones” around moving ICE vehicles? This drone pilot fought back—and won.

This follows the pattern, these clowns can never actually win in court. But what's different is this time it didn't take two years while they ran out the clock, so I'll take that win.

I'm glad Rob and his lawyers are not settling for this and are going to continue to push, we need to keep up every bit of pressure possible.

These are deeply frustrating times. It's easy to feel helpless. Tell you what, I take personal solace in how many people stop me to tell me they like my shirt when I'm out and about wearing this:

A week after the no-fly zone warning, the situation in Minneapolis escalated further when Customs and Border Protection officers killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse, after wrestling him to the ground and shooting him multiple times.

You misspelled executed.

That "chilling effect" is why ambiguous laws, especially ones adjacent to protected activities, need to be shot down ASAP. I have no problem presuming that the chilling effect that stopped journalists from documenting the protests from the air was intentional and malicious. It's already brazenly unconstitutional that the DHS was trying to stop people from documenting their activities; but this shows that the damage they cause goes way beyond what they have expressly stated.

Thanks for reading and for checking the link. I just looked and it seems to be working, but I redid it in case. Just give another shout if it still doesn't appear to be working.

Aww. I'm too much of a ratkeeper to wear a shirt with a dead rodent on it, but maybe I can find something along similar lines elsewhere. And heads up to all actual cat people, there's other spicy and wholesome feline designs on the site too!

That’s what it takes to defeat fascists. Millions of Rob Levines, being courageous and tenacious enough to stand up against this kind of bullshit.

Yes, some bigger orgs helped him out, but Rob was just one freelance guy and could have just kept his head down and tried to stay out of trouble. He didn’t give up when it wasn’t immediately clear he could find someone to help him win.

Don’t wait for someone else to save us. Be a Rob Levine. Be a Renee Good. Be an Alex Pretti. Thank you, Rob. Your small act in defense of freedom means a lot.

First thing i'd do with any drone is file off the serial numbers.
Don't worry, you can just not tape your ID onto it because the FAA tracks drones by a self regulated requirement of sticking a tag to the drone of your own ID.
I guess taking the SN off of the parts/GPS drones also help if it's in a giant database like DJI's, but if you're flying built FPV drones, the only thing you need to take note of is the SN on the flight controller/camera module

The federal aviation administration is a safety agency not a security agency. If you’re not willing to give homeland security the role to enforce an unconstitutional law or regulation and hold them accountable, don’t try to rig a safety agency into your abuse of government power.

A similar tactic worked so well they’re trying it with other government agencies. For example, a passport is proof that you are you claimed to be, and gives you authority to travel when the government otherwise would have the power to stop you. Now they’re trying to rig a document that merely means you’re allowed to drive a car into proof that you are who you claim to be and are allowed to travel. Bitch, that’s what a passport already is. Don’t try to bastardize my drivers license into a passport.

If you’re flying a radio-operated device and the police don’t like it, it’s not that hard for them to get tracking equipment.

And if you’re flying a fiber-optic FPV drone then you’re probably in Ukraine.

What? Be so bad a driver that when you try and run someone over by flooring the accelerator whilst driving on ice that you have to wait for the traction control to cut in before you can hit them leaving them enough time to draw their weapon and defend themselves? As seen in the copious video evidence.
Be ashamed.

An armed invasion force killing civilians in the street for witnessing their crimes. Am I describing ICE or the Russians in Bucha?

I suggest a picture of a tiny comb and a bottle of shampoo that says ABOLISH(L)ICE

I mean yeah... it's easy to track locations, but unlike other tracking methods (like stingrays for cellphones) they won't know who you are and what you're flying, since all they get is your video feed and remote inputs with no other identifying information.

Unless you're on a dji drone, then they can get your account info and etc.

FAA drone regs prohibit flying over crowds and traffic, which outlaws basically every drone operator flying without a permit over beaches, concerts, skyscrapers, EMS events such as wildfires, even wildlife.

So it’s awesome to see protecting civil liberties and fighting fascists gets a pass precedent.

They know who you are and what you’re flying because they drove over to where the radio signal is coming from and flashed their badge at you.

ICE.

The Russians kill civilians randomly. Even pro-Russian civilians who fed them intelligence. ICE has been far more disciplined; they’ve only shot brown people, or white people who annoyed them.

It is extremely unfortunate that in order to enforce one's constitutional rights against a bad faith government that lawyers, which are supposed to be the ones helping people defend those rights, are refusing to do so en masse, even when it's not a conspiracy. That should be concerning to anyone.

A Driver's license is de-facto ID for most purposes in the US because practically everyone has one and we don't have a national ID like most countries do. Most people do not keep passports on them daily, and only a slight majority even have them to begin with.
