Newly purchased Vizio TVs now require Walmart accounts to use smart features

If I need a tv, I'll use a 37 inch 1080 monitor without sound as I have a sound bar. But I haven't watched tv/youtube in 5 years so not an issue for me.

AI can rewrite open source code—but can it rewrite the license, too?

The Bios Clean room effort was due to IBM Patents, not copyright. What this effort was is a derivative and frankly needs the original coder to sue for copyright infringement as that is what this is. Otherwise any of the open source licenses such as GPL/LGPL/Mit/BSD are invalid.

Trump wants tiny Japanese-style cars for US even as he cuts mpg goals

If Triump gets his way, our crash safety standards will be based on Super Tanks that can drive through buildings and survive being at ground zero while running on diesel and getting 10ft per 1000 gallons.

How Android phones became an earthquake warning system

Got one of them early this year - San Diego Region of California had a 4.5+ shaker and scared the frog out of all of us when our cell phones tossed out that warniing. Then the shaking started. The only alerts I want from the phone is Severe Weather such as Tornado's/flash floods and earthquakes...

Mozilla is killing its Pocket and Fakespot services to focus on Firefox

Sorry to say this, but you're "A day late & A Dollar Short" as the saying goes. Google is doing everything possible to kill firefox since they're no longer funding them even as they fight the DoJ breakup attempt.

Texas official warns against “measles parties” as outbreak keeps growing

I'm sorry to say we're on pace for a major Plague to hit the World and Darwin is going to be very strict with the bleach on the gene pools. Yes I'm a bit peturbed about the idiots but the fastest way other then disease is to simply start nuking the world to reduce the population to something...

Fuel efficiency, EVs, and charger funding all cut by Trump’s orders

Guess no one has figured out that all of these Exective Orders are to break the Unions in the United States. It doesn't have a damn thing to do with anything else. He want's "Company Slaves" and no payments to anyone that's employed. Alternatively, he's pushing this country to the point that Mob...

On Trump’s chopping block: EVs, charger funding, California’s emissions

Poorly thought out: 1) Ever Legal Resident of the United States has the option to cast their vote 2) Those who abstained have made the decision that the majority can set policy as abstince is still a decision to vote. Just not yours 3) In a democratic country like the United States where the...

Your AI clone could target your family, but there’s a simple defense

In the cases where they've wanted me to wire money get a relative out of jail - all they get is laughter from me as I tell them, good for the cops, maybe they can feed the freeloaders instead of me.

Microsoft reiterates “non-negotiable” TPM 2.0 requirement for Windows 11

It's all about "Who Controls the Computer/Remote". In my case, I bought the hardware, I control the computer/remote as it's mine; all mine and you don't get to play with it. Seriously, I recently pulled the trigger on a new build around an Epyc CPU 7282 (16c/32t) and doubled my system memory...

Found in the wild: The world’s first unkillable UEFI bootkit for Linux

Once again, lilo is the simpler solution instead of the mess of cludge together "kitchen sink, baby, bathwater and Pease Porridge" that Grub has become. For those that wonder why such a boot loader is dangerous, it's how UEFI works. If they can insert it into the motherboard firmware which btw...

For those contemplating the Linux Switch and holding off due to gaming, there are two options. 1st is Proton from Valve and many Linux Distro's offer it 2nd is DosBox for older Games - Get them from GoG but check which ones use it. Again, DosBox is wide spread in Linux, meaning that many older...

FDA proposes ditching common decongestant for being completely useless

I'd thought they'd already ruled to remove the compound since I read about it over a year ago. Guess the wheels of Government do turn slooowly after all.

“Impact printing” is a cement-free alternative to 3D-printed structures

Sounds like Rammed Earth Construction that's been around for thousands of years. It simply takes a 10 ton Hydraulic press and a box to make rammed earth bricks. If you want to get special, then add a tounge and groove so there's no mortar needed, just dry stack but you will be limited in height...
