When Trump declared in 2016, my husband said, if he gets elected, it'll take 100 years to fix everything he'll break. Now it looks more like 500.

Survey: Americans fear AI will hurt them. Experts expect the opposite.

It's going to have to be a heck of a lot better than it is - every article I've read on the subject says that when people try to use it to become more productive at work, it turns out to be more time-consuming than just doing it. Any summary, report, etc. that AI writes has to be minutely...

DeepMind is holding back release of AI research to give Google an edge

People need to realize that no decision, no matter how major or minor, is done for one reason only. Even something as simple as whether or when to go to lunch brings up several reasons to take into account when making the decision, and the larger and more complex the decision is, the more...

X is reportedly blocking links to secure Signal contact pages

Aren't these the same people who blew up over "Hillary's e-mails"? Of course, it's already well known that the people now in power are some of the most shameless hypocrites ever known.

X is reportedly blocking links to secure Signal contact pages

No, a "free speech absolutist" wouldn't censor posts he/it doesn't like. It's a far-right discussion board like Truth Social now.

Researchers use ASCII art to elicit harmful responses from 5 major AI chatbots

I've read that the reason that newer "AI"s are worse at showing human beings than the older ones is that porn was removed from the training data (or filtered out), so the "AI" doesn't know how human bodies work. Removing only "bad" and retaining only "good" is harder than it sounds.

Hospitals adopt error-prone AI transcription tools despite warnings

Regarding Google having been good at transcription until recently, what are the odds they've stuck AI into it? It looks like we have a new subset of enshittification: AI-enhanced enshittification.

Hospitals adopt error-prone AI transcription tools despite warnings

Yes, sometimes close is good enough. If you're just using it for fun, or to generate ideas for a person to expand on, or in a situation where a person is definitely going to compare the output to the original, then go for it. All we're saying is, it's worse than idiotic to use something like...

Amid a flurry of hype, Microsoft reorganizes entire dev team around AI

How about the metaverse skeptics, and the blockchain skeptics, and the metaverse skeptics? Seems to me that the skeptics are right pretty often.

X CEO signals ad boycott is over. External data paints a different picture.

Nu-uh, I'm not letting the white supremacists take over a perfectly good gesture which is good for many purposes. They can't have our flag, either.

Photobucket sold users’ biometric data without consent, lawsuit says

Oh, I hope so! As someone has pointed out, this will bounce around the American courts until all parties die of old age, but Europe will make up for it. One of many policies proving that Europeans are, on the average, smarter than Americans. (I actually am American, but after this latest...

Huge math error corrected in black plastic study; authors say it doesn’t matter

I've been putting wood utensils in the dishwasher since we got our first one in 1985, and I'm still using most of them.
