Intel hires Justin Long to mock Macs in throwback to 2000s “I’m a Mac” ads

Yeah, it's a shame that a very solid platform is tied to such snobbery. I remember a developer event where some folks had Dells and people just rolled their eyes and mocked them pretty hard. I had a Debian laptop and that was enough to get people to stay several yards away from me the entire...

Intel hires Justin Long to mock Macs in throwback to 2000s “I’m a Mac” ads

I'm in my late 30s and from the US. If not for an episode of Seinfeld, I'd have never heard of mutton before age 30 or so. Every time I've ever seen lamb/sheep at the grocery, it's one very old piece of mostly bone and costs $20/lb. In my mind it's a "rich person" food like chateaubriand. Then...

Intel hires Justin Long to mock Macs in throwback to 2000s “I’m a Mac” ads

Yeah, but... TWO 6K monitors though... :P I've got a MacBook for work with two 4K monitors hooked up to it and it's really nice. Anyway, I don't know what I'd do if I were Intel. It really sounds like they have systemic problems and the whole worldwide shutdown manufacturing problems might be...

$70 game prices are probably here to stay, but “not for every game”

I think they'll survive. Final Fantasy III US (aka VI) for the SNES was $80 in 1994 which is $141.20 today. Fortunately there are still a lot of great games at the $30 and under levels and the AAA games usually go on sale within a year if you can wait.

Two days with a Volkswagen ID.4—here’s what we learned

I guess my use case is a little weird, I live in the exurbs and need to drive into the city, so I need to be able to reach freeway speeds fairly quickly. I've got a Prius C right now which is great. Hopefully by the time it needs to be replaced, an electric alternative will be around. I don't...

Two days with a Volkswagen ID.4—here’s what we learned

Make it properly safe, up to US regulations, and give me maybe 150 miles per charge and that's pretty much perfect.

Two days with a Volkswagen ID.4—here’s what we learned

I'm from the Gulf Coast of the US and I learned to put the car in neutral and put on the parking brake at a red light. I also put on the parking brake every time I park, even in automatic vehicles. I'm not a VW fan, but I'm always glad to see another electric car shooting for the mainstream...

Ars’ plea: Someone make this into a series

I'm not much into reading fiction, but I'd like to see Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy made into a series. Together their probably my favorite work of literary fiction or at least tied for first with The Count of Monte Cristo.

Working from home now? Your 2020 state tax situation could suck

I'm in a situation where I usually work in a city with an income tax, but I do not live there. Since we're working from home, in theory we shouldn't need to pay that tax, but the city is apparently fighting it hard. It will be interesting to see how it plays out, but I'm guessing that the...

Diablo II Resurrected tops BlizzCon announcement flurry

My friends and I played Diablo 1 all the time in high school at LAN parties. It had such a great atmosphere. When Diablo 2 came out, we all took two weeks off our jobs and literally flew with our PCs to one guy's house to play it like the "old" days. Our response? Eh, decent. It just didn't...

YouTube’s lo-fi music streams are all about the euphoria of less

Lo-Fi seems to be the intro/outro music to just about every YouTube video I watch from bass fishing to computer hardware. It's not quite my taste, but I get it. One of the music YouTubers I like, Adam Neely, has a couple of videos about LoFi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4KIwA8O9LU It's...

Mac utility Homebrew finally gets native Apple Silicon and M1 support

Yeah, and now that AMD is finally starting to get competative in the GPU market, Apple's little row with Nvidia isn't quite the problem it used to be. Still not great, but at least there's the potential for a powerful add-on card for Macs. edit: start->starting

Ford Mustang Mach-E review: The people’s pony goes electric

No doubt, but that's a very small percentage of people from what I've seen on various car-centric platforms. The idea that people who are anti-touchscreen or anti-yoke or whatever need to get with the times is more along the lines of what I was referring to. We all have our fuzzy lines of...

Ford Mustang Mach-E review: The people’s pony goes electric

I don't get excited over new tech all that easily and am particularly skeptical of touchscreen-centric vehicles, but this comes from a different place - changes to driving should be slow and methodical. Driving is a dangerous activity and the user interface of a vehicle should be easy to use...

Ford Mustang Mach-E review: The people’s pony goes electric

I'm fairly sure the Corvette thing was a joke :P As for it being a Mustang, as long as it can do 10 under the speed limit in the left lane with its turn signal stuck on, it's still a Mustang.

Ford Mustang Mach-E review: The people’s pony goes electric

It's good to see more manufacturers moving to mainstream electrics. I love Tesla for pushing them, but I hate Tesla for pushing the giant monitor in the middle concept. Give me a good camera system and play my music and leave buttons for the rest. I saw a comment somewhere about the change of...

How Final Fantasy VII Remake legitimizes sexuality and gender identity

For those of you presumably straight males who are uncomfortable playing a character dressed as a woman for 10 minutes, imagine what it must be like to actually be someone who feels they're the wrong gender. Imagine waking up tomorrow with the body of a woman but the same personality and idea of...
