New AirSnitch attack breaks Wi-Fi encryption in homes, offices, and enterprises

From Gemini An AirSnitch attack does not require the person snooping to have physical access to the Wi-Fi equipment or ethernet lines. According to the research (led by Mathy Vanhoef and scientists from UC Riverside), AirSnitch is a wireless attack. The primary requirement is that the attacker...

China bans all retractable car door handles, starting next year

And some flush door handles are implemented in ways that show when doors are left unlocked, creating an invitation for thieves.

Sony wants its Afeela EV to be heavy on AI, also shows crossover

It appears that some rogue Branding Words generator (human or other) has blinded Sony to a deadly boring design, non-competitive features, a price that's way too high and a roll-out date that missed the bus by a couple of years at least. I saw this presented in a local showroom about a year...

OpenAI CEO declares “code red” as Gemini gains 200 million users in 3 months

Have they not stolen enough underpants already?

So long, Assistant—Gemini is taking over Google Maps

Google's Gemini permeation has been like watching a camouflaged sloth walking a forest floor. You're never sure what is Gemini and what isn't. You know it wants to go upward eventually, but most evidence show it slithering along the ground. Nobody knows where it is going, and apathy will...

Troops in US cities? Tech billionaires are shaping that, too.

Billionaires restrain Trump from putting more feds into the Bay Area, and commenters complain about the influence of billionaires. We need all the help we can get to stop over-reach - how about a little positive reinforcement when it's due?

People regret buying Amazon smart displays after being bombarded with ads

Just too, mine to Goodwill. Alexa+ is much, much better than Google Assistant, but the ads and 'feature promos' just killed the Echo Show for me.

Samsung forces ads onto fridges; is a bad sign for other appliances

I have taken to using a WiFi router dedicated to device configuration. Plug it in, activate the device, then unplug the router and leave it in a closet. Most firmware update requests are ignored - if the device works without it today, why bother upgrading? Curiosity and cats....

Most consumer AI will go to the client for processing. Larger, hosted models will be the upsell.

What’s the goal of SpaceX’s 10th Starship test flight? Right the ship.

Tims is running out because.... competition? Demand is falling? SpaceX is running out of cash? Maybe the answer is on Bluesky.....

Google says it dropped the energy cost of AI queries by 33x in one year

If they dropped the electricity use by 1x it would use no electricity at all. So Google has created an electrical generator out of its AI service. Cool.

Bernie Sanders backs Trump’s plan to buy stake in Intel

A lot of private money has been lost by Intel's investors over the past few years. Meanwhile, local, state and Federal governments have been paid part of the income Intel has paid its employees and contractors. When Intel succeeds, assuming it doesn't do it by foul means as it has on occasion...

Why Amazon is letting its rival launch its satellites

Thank you for the welcome perspective. I do wish that less pain were required before we swing that pendulum back ( I was sure that the GFC was going to be enough). Less collateral damage before and after each swing. And we should not assume that we can swing back from every series of mistakes...

Enough is enough—I dumped Google’s worsening search for Kagi

It should last for around $15, then disappear. The funeral will be held on Bluesky.

Google brings new Gemini features to Chromebooks, debuts first on-device AI

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is a very interesting device. Keyboard and track pad are nowhere close to Lenovo standards, but they work. OLED screen has good-enough resolution and a nice, vertical ratio that is good for getting work done. Performance is very strong - by far the best I've seen...

Why wait? Google is already dismantling Assistant as it switches to Gemini.

Assistant has been half-dead for nearly 2 years now (or more). I love smart speakers (despite the obvious risks), but have recently moved to Amazon's because living with Nest products has been like watching an Alzheimer's sufferer decline. After what they did to it I won't invest in Gemini for...
