Instagram user fights DHS for the right to post ICE sightings anonymously

DHS is weirdly using import/export rules to expand its authority to identify online critics.
Weirdly? Christ, imagine if we wrote about them foreign dictatorships this way.

Russia is weirdly crushing dissent. North Korea is oddly silencing political opponents. El Salvador is confusingly running concentration camps.

The mind boggles.

This is really troubling, especially given videos of further encounters since Renee Good's murder.

At what point are they designated a "secret police"?
That designation is usually reserved for those outside their jurisdiction, so from American media at large? Never.

I just call them Brown Shirts. Racist motherfuckers hell-bent on keeping America White (even though it isn't).

Nazis, Gestapo, take your pick. The propaganda, rationalizations and motivations are only in a different language. The intent is the same.

No doubt you’ve heard of the Gestapo. You may not know that it was short for Geheimstaatspolizei, i.e. Secret State Police.

The way things appear to be going they’ll be demanding lists of Jews next.

Oh, wait…

And it’s the commission for equal employment opportunities doing it. It would be funny if it weren’t so horrifying.

Now how can ICE do its valuable job of creating a police state if everyone knows who they are, what they drive, and what weapons they have? Doesn't Doe realize that police states need secrecy? What's next? Posting videos of ICE breaking the law in order to kill someone over a misdemeanor offense?

I've started a "cuss jar" for every time I see something that ICe or this administration does that makes me ask myself WTF? Every time the amount in the jar gets over $100, I send the money to the ACLU to help support their legal battles against Trump.

Reading this while on break from patrolling my neighborhood here in Minneapolis. Hope Doe prevails but we know that nobody is coming to save us.

If you can donate money for food to organizations like MIRAC, 50501, ACLU, etc. it would be much appreciated.

And please, if you see what’s coming out of here on social media, please boost it and share it with others. Whatever you’re seeing on there, it’s only a tiny fraction of what we’re seeing come through our Signal chats and private groups.

I had this dream/idea of an ICE raid happening in a city close to a large military base (think Delta Force), and the local commander decides that "enough is enough", goes rogue (defends the Constitution) and arrests the whole ICE horde in 30 seconds.

I know it will never happen, but it would be beautiful to watch these cowards crying mommy. One can dream.

(I also don't know where the average US serviceperson sits in terms of political affiliation. I am naively assuming most of them are reasonable.)

I am still deeply confused about how ICE gets to go into communities wearing masks and hiding their badges in the first place? You should have to prove your authority before yoinking someone into a barely marked vehicle and racing away with them.
And under the previous administrations, they (a) didn't wear masks, (b) didn't hide their badges, and (c) deported far more illegal aliens than this shit show does.

The cruelty and ineptitude is the point.

Mainly because the US military lacks the authority to arrest people on US soil. What you want is for the local sheriff to arrest the fuckers and maybe for the governor to call out the National Guard to back up the sheriff.

They tend to be old-style Republican and are exceedingly reasonable (witness the group of generals currently trying to explain that invading Greenland is against international law and an attack on an ally and against the NATO treaty).

DHS alleged that the community watch group posting “pictures and videos of agents’ faces, license plates, and weapons, among other things,” was akin to “threatening ICE agents to impede the performance of their duties.”
Random question: If regular Joe's have no right to privacy in a public space, why do masked, armed thugboots?

While I'm anonymous and online, I'd like to point out that two recent articles on Slate referred to Good's death as a murder. I understand that this goes against longstanding journalistic practice of not using that word until after a conviction. But we all know what happened to her, and I support their bravery in stating the obvious.

The Brown Shirts with a helping of Keystone Cops as well. When you watch videos of them, they are truly inept, but they sure have the gratuitous violence down.

You might as well dream of one of the Secret Service waking up tomorrow and thinking “right, that’s enough.
