COVID shots protect kids from long COVID—and don’t cause sudden death

It breaks my heart to see COVID vaccination rates so low in kids.

Too many people accepted the convenient fiction early in the pandemic that kids don’t get sick.

I enrolled my older kid in two Pfizer vax clinical trials and was happy to deal with the modest inconvenience and distant risk to help make these shots available to the public. Wish the public were more keen on the shots!

Bold claim. Non-existent risk! I bet it's closer to "We don't know, but the benefits likely far outweigh risks". Medicine is a PRACTICE after all. Not an assertion.
If you cannot find a risk, risk benefit ratios become kind of irrelevant. Or would you have us do an analysis of the risk of getting struck by a meteor after a Covid vaccination?

Well, I’m glad that’s settled. RFK Jr said that he just wanted to follow the science in his confirmation hearings. Now that we have the science, I’m sure he’s getting ready to announce how useful Covid shots are for kids, right? Right?

Oh, he's a lying sack of shit? Never mind then.

This is exactly the kind of research that should be getting more attention. The fact that COVID-19 vaccines can cut the risk of long COVID in kids by up to 73% is huge - especially when so many people still dismiss the risks of long-term complications. It’s frustrating to see that only 14% of kids are up to date with their shots when the data is so clear. And the study on sudden cardiac arrest should finally put to rest the conspiracy theories about vaccines causing widespread heart issues in young athletes. Science keeps proving the benefits, but misinformation keeps getting in the way. Hopefully, more parents will take this seriously and get their kids protected.

Big Pharma will still want to make money and will produce and sell vaccines. Blue states will continue to require them in various ways. You will still be able to protect yourself and your family.

A lot of Americans will be hurt, which is tragic. The takeaway from living in an unregulated, anti-science, anti-education, anti-healthcare, authoritarian, oligarchy, theocracy(theatrical window dressing only, no in dept theological study), late stage capitalistic country is that it is almost certain that vaccines will be available because as always, MONEY.

Have you been checked for brain worms yet this year?

If the US is getting rid of health education, health research and health vetting... does that mean that vaccines could just re-brand as homeopathy or supplements and carry on without any issues?

Anyone else read stuff like this and feel the call of the dark side?

I just start thinking how I could poke holes in their methodology and use it to con people into giving me money online.

I have thus far ignored these impulses… but watching the whole world burn in a cloud of disinformation while some profit from it really tests me.

"I should add: getting a COVID booster will also not implant any sort of microchip, cause chemtrails to appear in the sky, or make the frogs gay. I can't believe I have to say this but here we are."
I think sometimes about how much fucking time and money and energy and brainpower we've wasted "disproving" shit like this. What a drain on society, though I guess you can fix that by destroying society.

It's the shitty old "why won't Democrats just come out and say they aren't trafficking children in a pizzeria if they aren't trafficking children in a pizzeria?" thing: just acknowledging the question is to lose. (There's probably a formal fallacy for this but I'm too tired to look for it right now, it's not quite a straw man?)

Thankyou to you and your kid, and for what it’s worth, my kid is one of those 14%, including boosters.

This why I just love things like this:

Contraception Begins at Erection Act

Contraception Begins at Erection Act is a 2025 Mississippi bill proposed by Mississippi State Senator Bradford Blackmon that would make it unlawful for a person to "discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo."[1][2][3] The proposed bill would impose a $1,000 fine for first-time offenders, $5,000 fine for a second offense, and $10,000 fine for further offenses.[4]

Unfortunately the bill died

While it is true that I feel better that my children and grandchildren will be as protected as possible, I recognize that I am lucky that no one in my close family is immune compromised. That, however, is not the point of vaccinations in public health. The point is to vaccinate a sufficiently high percentage of people that the spread of the disease in everybody is suppressed. That greatly benefits those who cannot be vaccinated. I am afraid that we are going to have to suffer through a major epidemic of something like measles that kills thousands of people before we once again have the conviction to enforce vaccine mandates.

These are the relevant numbers.

12 of whom (43 percent) were unvaccinated, and 594 acted as controls, 136 of whom (23 percent) were unvaccinated.

so 23% of the the sample are unvaccinated but 43% of the unvaccinated develop long covid.

Is it worth it too vaccinate your kids for covid to prevent long covid, the evidence is yes.

Trying to find numbers are actual long covid in kids is somewhat difficult, ie the previous estimate is 1% but could be as high as 20% is typical fear mongering. A study identified 751 kids in the US but abc Australia who spout stuff like this all the time time say it could be millions of kids.

Sort of. As COVID demonstrated, even if you fail to achieve herd immunity levels of coverage, you get some kinda-sorta protection in the form of shorter, less-severe illness. But without those herd immunity levels, no, you're not really protecting your family as well as you ought to be able to.

And soon Measles, Mumps, Polio, and all sorts of other diseases can join the crowd of diseases that you can sort of half-assed protect yourself against because of lack of herd immunity levels. I'm not feeling that protected, personally.

I think a lot of them must be, deep down inside and not consciously acknowledged, unsure... and consequently, very scared.
It's hard to explain how that issue makes them feel so deeply scared, otherwise.
