Russia seems to have lost contact with its first lunar probe in half a century

Very unimpressive. That's a blog by one person about the whole atomic weapons program and which contain a lot of factual errors. With a one sentence mention that "Berlin as well as Mannheim-Ludwigshafen were considered to be potential targets". I wrote that there wasn't an actual target list for Germany. "Considered to be potential targets" isn't even close to being a planned target.
If a German target had been sought with the same considerations followed for Japanese targets then choosing and target would have been hard. A May 11 memorandum from the Target Selection Committee starts:
Dr. Stearns described the work he had done on target selection. He has surveyed possible targets possessing the following qualifications: (1) they be important targets in a large urban area of more than three miles diameter, (2) they be capable of being damaged effectively by a blast, and (3) they are likely to be unattacked by next August. Dr. Stearns had a list of five targets which the Air Forces would be willing to reserve for our use unless unforeseen circumstances arise.
by the final months before the German surrender there were few large urban areas that hadn't already been heavily bombed.

But he had such a great rocket development program! It seems almost churlish to mention that they were aiming those rockets straight at my grandparents...

When I will die my major insight will be that we humans are just talking animals. We could be or could have been more, but we aren't and we won't.

Continue to throw shit at the other apes please. They expect nothing else, and you can't really do anything else. Prepare for what will follow. Good luck.
The only human shit throwing apes are the Russian's worshiping Putin...

It's like a coven of evil spirits on Bald Mountain :) Aren't you ashamed to write nonsense and gloat?
By the way, how many vehicles has America landed on the surface of the moon over the past 50 years?
Same number as Russia. (USSR =! Russia)

But, you know, the USA hasn't sent unmanned landers because, you know, we sent 12 men and gathered 840kg of rocks.

How many men has Russia sent to the moon?

its possible some relatives of my great grandparents died building said rockets though the last of my ancestors to come to the States was from more eastern Europe, Austria-Hungry to be precise, told via letter during/after WW1 not to return home because of Bolsheviks. worth noting more people died building those rockets than were killed by them

I'm mistaking the term "atomized" for something more literal, as opposed to just making a fine spray.
Not my field so I never gave it much thought. Atomized just means finely divided. It's not like the spray coming out of an atomizer is invisible. Makes sense, learnt something new today.
No worries. Not everyone can be an expert in sprays. I won't hold it against you. Much :p

There are commonalities across moral systems. Some formulation of the golden rule (either the negative formulation "do not do to others what you do not wish them to do to you" or the positive "treat others as you wish to be treated") is widely present across cultures, history, and religions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_rule Moral systems consistently assign significant value to human lives, too; people should not be killed without good cause (details of what qualifies as good cause is the part that varies).

I think it's fair to say some portion of morality arises from human nature and the needs of more-or-less rational beings. And some portion of morality arises from historical circumstance and accident. You shouldn't let the latter part keep you from noticing the former.
The "Golden Rule" is ethics, not morality. It essentially is the basis of ethics. If you treat everyone equally shitty, and expected to be treated just as shitty in return, you're following the Golden Rule, and you're being ethical, though you're probably violating most moral codes.

I'm calling out the numbers here. There is NO WAY the US only spent $100 million a year average in Vietnam. No WAY. Just buying, transporting, storing and pumping the jet fuel alone would blow that budget. And the gold standard in reality was abandoned in the early 1930's, the phrase existed on paper only for a couple decades more. And, I think, the inflation and high interest rates of the 80's were caused by the 70's oil shocks and/or trying to keep a semblance of a balanced budget.
$100M also wasn't 2.5% of the GDP in the late 1960s. It was already stated to be a typo, billion/trillion instead of million/billion.

Russia is engaging in crimes against humanity on a scale not seen since WWII, and according to you we're just supposed to ignore it. That ain't happening on my end, and thankfully not for the great many others who support Ukraine.

Russia has spent decades trying to make enemies of the West through their actions, and guess what? They succeeded at something for once, because the West finally sees Russia as an unambiguous enemy. Russians didn't believe that would ever happen because the West has been all to willing to look the other way, but no longer. From now on every Russian failure will be met with glee, because bad news for Russia is good news for everyone else.
Not seen since World War II? Are you kidding me?

Khmer Rouge? Pol Pot? Sudan? Ethiopia?

Russia IS engaged in crimes against humanity. That's not my point of disagreement. But the evil we're seeing is, sadly, way more common than you assert.

It was sad enough, to say the least, that a nation that once had one of the best space programs in the world was now competing with India to land a rover on the south pole. Now that has failed miserably just makes this event even more sad, Putin and his greedy friends have destroyed much and I hope the Russian people get rid of them soon.

Also, congratulations to India and the ISRO, I hope your lander succeeds this time.

You mixed up the two. Your hypothetical example might be still be moral by some shitty moral codes, but it would still be shitty according to ethics. As in the philosophy, the study of right and wrong behaviour.

If you treated everybody equally shitty, you would be "ethical" only as in within the purview of ethicists, the philosophers. Not ethical in the sense of doing right.

At this point, I would expect the Russian space program to transition to a pirated feed of For All Mankind.

Modern Russia is a continuation of the USSR and the Russian Empire.
Just because they both attempted a genocide in Ukraine doesn't make them the same country.

Oh, and I've already provided my sources for calling the war you're too chickenshit to join a genocide. You've still failed to address them, слабак.

The head of Roscosmos Borisov gave an interview on the accident Luna-25.
Briefly
1. Uncalculated operation of the propulsion system. 127 seconds instead of 84. The device entered an open orbit and crashed on the surface.
2. There was a stable connection throughout the correction period. The entire set of telemetry was received.
3. All operations were simulated on a ground layout before execution. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
4. The main objective of the mission is not fulfilled.
5. The reason is the lack of flight experience for 50 years. He did not say the reason for the small financing.
6. Russia will participate in the lunar race.
7. The preparation of new Miss and 1 - Luna-26 and Luna-27 will go in a forced mode.
8. The NGO Lavochkina (manufacturer) has a working team. They believe her.

Russians listen to such stupidity with bewilderment:)
Modern Russia is a continuation of the USSR and the Russian Empire.
At the bottom of my photo in St. Petersburg are three huge flags (RI, USSR and RF). Everyone is nearby and looks great.
Too bad there is no Tzar, and too bad the Union was dissolved. You have claims to neither and signed UN agreements agreeing to modern borders. Putin is just a madman that thinks he can erase decades of history with a whim. Totally ignoring his international commitments, and your comments showing many vatniks are either too dumb or callus to care. Unworthy of your security council seat.

Plus, being related to said Tzar you vaunt so much, I can tell you Aunti Catie would be reviled by this "Russian Empire". Crimea isn't worth the diplomatic nightmare you made it into. She knew how to make decisions that bettered Russia, Putin only enriches himself on your backs. She wasn't even Russian born...

It's comical hearing a vatnik claim Empire after screaming about "Western Imperialism" for decades with zero proof. Now we have Orcs shelling sovereign nations purely for a land grab and shredding protectorate agreements. Petersburg was once such a beautiful city... until the vatniks destroyed it. So dirty anymore, no wonder you take photos aiming upwards. It used to be real, now it has a nasty veneer covering up the potemkin'd vatnik filth beneath.

Any time you think Russia is some big player, just remember they are losing nearly 100 to 1 in Ukraine making your numbers pointless, lost almost all of their tanks in Ukraine, losing ground rapidly anymore, can't complete simple lunar landings, top 3 worst economies in the world, declared a terrorist regime by the international community, and your war was denounced by the general assembly... twice. Putins Russia is a joke. Powered by vatniks like you to cowardly to stand up to him because you don't want consequences or afraid to face the reality Russian World will never be a thing.

That you are "bewildered" speaks to how coddled you are. If you are so loyal, go to the zero line. It doesn't matter how old you are. Russians loyal to Putin are supposed to serve. You are alive... so you have not served.

Slava Ukraini.

Neither have his children, though they all apparently support the genocide because they want to "crush the reptile".

Easiest to support things you don't have to sacrifice anything for.

I wonder if a burn time of 127 seconds was enough to deplete the propellant tanks and they didn't actually manage to ever command the thruster to stop firing. That's basically a repeat of what Nauka did recently.

Stop repeating the fake thesis of military propaganda "about genocide". The destruction of the Ukrainian military machine is underway with minimal civilian casualties.
Various international organizations, including several Russia has previously recognized, all say Russia is conducting genocide. In addition, Putin and a secretary of his are wanted war criminals for the forced deportation and brainwashing of Ukrainian children. In addition, much of the world declared Russia a terrorist state for the continued attacks on civilians.

So yeah, Russia is conducting genocide against Ukraine. The nation that saw you as a brother, now hates you for it.

Nevermind you are destroying most of the global easts food supply out of spite. So that counts as genocidal too. Orc.

Edit: oh, don't forget that the UN GA also has denounced Russia for its war over the targeting of civilians. Twice. After Russia tried to veto the votes and failed, twice.

Edit2: also Russia seems only to be succeeding in demilitarizing itself now that it has lost nearly every trained unit, most of its fleet, nearly all tanks, afraid to fly jets, losing strategic bombers, and is statistically the second most powerful military in Ukraine anymore... it started significantly stronger. Attacking Ukraine literally make them stronger you vatnik...

Muffin, you are oh so ADORABLY stupid. I literally linked you to a post where I laid out my evidence. You'll note, I didn't lead off with actually posting the proof. It could not have been any more obvious that I was trying to manipulate you into responding in a way proving you hadn't educated yourself.

And you fell for it, so I get to do this again:

There is extensive evidence of rape, of executions, of looting, and of course the mass slaughter in Bucha, showing massive amounts of tortune, mutilation, execution, mistreatment of corpses. There are massive, massive troves of evidence of civilians run over by tanks, and being set on fire.

There are hundreds of instances noted as genocidal actions. They are forcibly deporting Ukrainians. They are kidnapping children to lie to them about Ukrainian identity. There is evidence of them trying to erase Ukraine as a country, and erase Ukrainian as an entire entity. Vladimir Putin has said Ukraine doesn't even exist. The former President of Russia agrees. Mikhail Ulyanov, a Russian Federation representative in Vienna, called for Russia to not spare the Ukrainian population. Russian city politicians demand that Ukraine be liquidated. Kremlin papers have justified the outright erasure of Ukrainian identity. Russian media figures call for the wholesale destruction of Ukraine.

It has been called a genocide in Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Canada, and the United States. It has been called a genocide by Genocide Watch. It has been called a genocide by PACE. It has been called a genocide by the Raoul Wellenberg Center for Human Rights. It has been called genocide by Institute for the Study of War. It has been called genocide by experts who study the Holocaust. It has been called genocide by experts in history. It has been called a genocide by legal experts. It has been called genocide by experts in international studies.

Feel free to actually risk something more than your otherwise worthless time to support this genocide, coward. You and your children should be there.
