"Dad, what were Trump supporters like?"

"Well, just to give you an example, a county clerk under investigation for tampering with the security of voting machines after the 2020 elections attempted to illegally videotape the trial of one of her accomplices on an iPad, lied to the court about it, and resisted arrest when the judge sent deputies to confiscate the tablet."

These last few years are going to be used as case studies by future civilizations to show why living in bubbles/engaging with echo chambers is a bad idea.

I get why these people are upset. If I believed the elections had become so corrupt as to produce forgone conclusions I'd be livid too. It's just too bad all their energy is directed towards helping people who really don't need or deserve their help.

I see that she was accorded the courtesy of not being charged with resisting arrest; and was denied the time honored repeated tasing to the chant of "stop resisting! stop resisting!". Shocked, I tell you.

No, no, she wasn't shocked, they only do that with Mexicans in Grand Junction.

I hope Trump supporters vanish so much my daughter has to ask me what Trump supporters were like... Not super optimistic though.

Again Ars, stick to science and tech.

An ongoing case having to do with cybersecurity of election equipment sits right at the intersection of tech, policy, and business/IT, which you'll notice are major subsections of the site in the title bar. So have a goddamn seat, you absolute bollard.

Her real “crime” was making full clone backups of the voting machine computers, before an “update” was installed by the voting machine company, which ended up wiping out the logs from the 2021 election, which is a violation of the law requiring the conservation of all voting records for 22 months following an election. That “update” was promoted by the Democrat secretary of state who is now pressing charges. Was this a cover-up that was thwarted resulting in retaliation?

Found another Nazi.

I'm surprised she was allowed to have the iPad in the courtroom at all. The county courthouse here won't allow you to go to the 2nd and 3rd floors where the courtrooms are with any electronic devices capable of recording video or audio. This applies even if you need to go to one of the offices on those floors and not to a courtroom. You have to leave it in your car, or go home.

Peters is really stupid, even by Trumper standards. She keeps on escalating things and making her situation worse. Recording the court even after being told not to added another crime to her list. Resisting the search warrant, caused by the previous crime, added another second. And then she tried to kick (physically assault) a cop while doing that, adding a third.

Even most of the January 6th insurrectionists had the sense to stop piling on the crimes afterward. (Most, not all.)

That never happens to well-dressed white ladies.

Sadly, my children already know a few Trump supporters in our extended family. The one silver-lining of the pandemic has been their exclusion from our holiday gatherings.

I thought the same. Any kind of electronic devices, with an exception for medical devices, are forbidden in courtrooms around here, and you're turned back at the entrance if you have any.

And therein lies the problem. If she were robbing a bank, she'd have some sense she was violating social norms, and might even feel regret for doing it. As it is, she, and many others, believe she's part of a massive righteous crusade to save America, so no matter what negative feedback she gets is translated into "persecution" in her head and she goes on being an a-hole. She, and so many like her.

Wow, US politics has become such a shitshow...

I suspect it has always been this way. Peters was elected in 2018, and she seems to always have been a terrible County Clerk.
That's for a relatively short kind of "always" though ;-) I remember when W was first elected and everybody thought this was ridiculous, but there's just no comparison. I mean even Sarah Palin doesn't appear to be all that insane anymore...

Don’t worry. Trump will pardon her in 2025. /s
Presidents can only pardon federal crimes. These are state charges.

I wonder though, if she could be also facing Federal charges soon? It seems to me this at least potentially violates both state AND federal elections laws?

I would also note that it's entirely possible that a Republican Governor could get elected in ANY state where a Trumper committed a crime, and get pardoned by the governor. They might even campaign on it.

This is the maddening thing. It's just Calvinball to these morons. It's whatever you need to do or say to win.

Imagine going to jail for Trump.

Dude is hanging out on some golf course ⛳️ and his flunkies are in jail fighting for his obvious lies…
I know! He's famous for throwing people under the bus once they're no longer useful to him. Does everyone think they won't be the one?

I learned that new posters can only post once a day until they reach 10 posts.

So, even if we were to reply to them, they can't until tomorrow.

Oh ffs, they weren't going to reply either way lol.
I know the mods say it isn't happening, but that's why dormant accounts suddenly becoming active is suspicious -- hijacking an old account lets you dodge the new poster limitation.
