Wait, Why TF does it need to consume 10W in this sleep mode? (let alone the 25W it was drawing before)
Because this 10W mode is not "standby" or "standby plus", but a more active mode which allows for immediate updates. It's wasteful, but even so we're talking about less than $1 per month.

From what I can tell a mac book air has a 50WH battery in it and gets 10h of streaming video battery life, so that's 5W fully on, screen, internet and all, watching video!
The Macbook Air was designed to be the most energy-efficient laptop in Apple's lineup, and does a particularly good job of running common tasks like video streaming while sipping power.

However, MB Airs aren't particularly good as gaming machines-- none of the Airs had discrete graphics and they ran on much slower CPUs compared with the Macbook or MBPro lines. Even the prior generation of game consoles are going to have a lot more CPU and GPU horsepower than any of the Intel-based MB Airs.

In the long run, it's a lifestyle choice to live like that. There's no particular reason why it would be impossible for Americans to live in reasonably-sized homes in temperate climates, rather than McMansions in deserts and snowfields.

yes, there's no reason why people shouldn't go to live where the government tells them and take whatever job they're given. there's a name for that system

What does the government have to do with anything? I'm making the point that it _is_ a choice, I'm not saying the government should force you to make a different one.

ok fine then. but there's a reason why people live where they do. i'd surmise that you live on a different continent

Yeah but i wasnt comparing the mb to the xbox when it was gaming. I was comparing it to when it was 'OFF'.
The mb uses less power in full flight than when the xbox is *off*... I cant see any possible reason for that power usage except laziness. Even if they wanted it to be able to so updates or other network related things while "off" it should go into a far lower power mode when not doing those things and simply waiting for a push notification or a poll
