Decades of being told you're the best cuz white. My mom has some pretty white supremacists views and says shit like "There's a natural hierarchy".
She works at a fucking call center. No college education, Nobel Peace Prize, honorary degree, accolades bestowed upon her by The State or anything that indicates she's a prize to society. People of that mindset have always been told they are better than a certain group so they believe they are.

Systemic racism is rather pervasive in this nation, either subconsciously (see: what happens regarding resumes and job hunting with African and Asian sounding names vs. white sounding names) or straight up explicitly ("Fucking ni... I mean thugs..."). I'm a white guy from the boonies of East Texas , live in NYC now, and I've heard shit like that and worse, much worse, in person, both back in the land of chili and guns and in the land of heinously expensive apartments. If you tell me I'm exaggerating, I'm going to laugh in your face.
A shitload of people who write the laws, vote the lawmakers in, enforce the laws, and so forth are like this. And the laws are enforced accordingly. The result: sure are a lot of lone wolfs out there in this nation, just like how there sure are an oxymornonic lot of a few bad apples in the police whenever video of one of them kneeling on a black man until they die comes out... odd, idn't it?

Not to disagree, but my experience is that DAs over-prosecute, not under-prosecute. It's not like this guy has a large political constituency to be offended . . . whoops!
I'm leaving that in, so you can understand my cognitive dissonance-- the linked story starts "Alexandria, VA", which is a very liberal enclave just outside Washington, DC. I only now caught on to the fact that he's actually from Montgomery, TX. Presumably he was arrested there and will be arraigned in that area.
I apologize for my dumb question, and return this conversation to the TMNTs, which are much more fun.

I had misread your comment at first but honestly, the perception that whites are losing something (power, majority, whatever) is probably what drives them.
For me the poem First they came... is so powerful because when you divide people up into groups there isn't a single person who isn't part of a minority. Not something someone without empathy can appreciate though.
