Review: <em>Tilt to Live</em>, pure awesome for iPhone

This is being promoted by FreeAppADay.com. I've been following that site since it's inception, and there have only been a handful of quality titles on it. This game is one of them. Get it nowwww!!

Just a clarification: On Classic mode, powerups spawn three at a time, and when you activate one, another one instantly appears. If you don't activate the powerups they do change from time to time, though.

I'm interested in learning more about the achievements, because they're all marked as secret! Someone needs to make a youtube achievement guide for this game, much like video walkthroughs of Angry Birds levels.

I downloaded this since it was free but I can't say that I really enjoy it. 2D top-down tilt controls just don't work for me. I didn't like them for fl0w on the PS3 and I don't like them for Tilt to Live on the iPhone.

Strangely, they seem to work well enough for 3D flight - I enjoyed them while playing Flower on the PS3.

Takes about 30 seconds from clicking the icon until you can actually play a game. I've seen computers come out of sleep mode faster.

I played it on my iPad and iPhone 3G. Little laggy starting on the iPhone, but iPad took considerably less. I can only imagine how fast it will be on the iPhone 4

This is my go to game for killing time. Has been since the time only classic mode was available. I can't recommend this game enough for simple fun, and talk of new weapons being added soon (on top of the addition of the new game modes before) just gives that much more incentive. I can't think of any other games that have nailed the use of accelerometer like this has, especially since you can set a custom neutral position.

Took me a bit to get used to the controls but its replaced doodle jump and flight control as the most played game for me. There's quite a bit of lag on my iPhone 2G however.

Code red mode pretty much renders classic mode pointless once you get into the game. Classic takes too long to get interesting and code red cuts out about a few minutes of non action.

Only other complaint is the game's heavy reliance on the combo system. You absolutely need to keep the combo chain going to break the high scores. In the end, it doesn't really matter if you survive for 3000 dots, if you get a chain of 1500 going you're guaranteed a big score. The problem with this is that sometimes you clear the screen too quickly and while waiting for more dots, your combo is broken.

What a piece of crap game. Awful control scheme. A poor poor replacement for Geometry Wars, even if its free. Glad I didn't throw any money down to play it once...

While I wouldn't call it a "piece of crap", I do agree that this can't hold a candle to Geometry Wars.

Mild amusement perhaps. Pure awesome? You need to share whatever you're smoking. ;)

Having bought way more than 300 games for my iPhone so far including Tilt to Live, I think it's an odd game to do an article about – it isn't even new. I've played it a few times but I honestly don't find it all that interesting nor engrossing. I don't even think that it would be in my top 50. Games like Soosiz, Sway, Orbital, Ynth, Geometry Wars, Spikey's Bounce Around, Drop7, Eliss, Fieldrunners, Flight Control, Fruit Ninja, Galcon, geoDefense, geoSpark, Harbour Master, Hook Champ, I Dig It, Jelly Car, Meteor Blitz, The Moron Test, Peggle, Plants Vs. Zombies, PuzzleManiak, Reflexion, Rolando, Saucelifter, Space Miner: Space Ore Bust, StoneLoops, Toy Bot Diaries, Vector Tanks Extreme and a few others would however.

I know different people like different things, but I urge you to play a few of the games mentioned above – start with Soosiz or Sway. They are in my opinion much more innovative, engrossing and worthy of a review.
