Activision is the Louis C K of corporations at this point. Unfortunately, I expect their story will have the same ending, where all the ostracism goes away when their peers realize they still make boatloads of money -_-.

Which in turn means realizing that most customers may care a little, but they don't care enough to give up on WoW/Overwatch/etc: https://www.pcgamesn.com/world-of-warcr ... count-2021

Just abandon everything Activision produces and let thousands of people lose their jobs, it'll all work itself out no problem.
Considering Blizzard management has actively (illegally) campaigned to stop other, less shitty companies from "poaching" their key employees, they can go fuck themselves. None of the people leaving Blizzard are leaving the industry except by choice, and can get paid better (Blizzard was bottom 10% in pay under Kotick) and be treated like real human beings.

The company is irredeemable.

I mean, good I guess...? I stopped buying Activision games a long time ago, but sales numbers suggest I am one of the few... It amazes me how loud gamers can complain and how little they actually do about real problems.
There is a likely chance that the ones complaining are not the same ones that keep playing.

In my youth I learned of the concept of "voting with your wallet". I've decided to embrace that in earnest. I've also stopped buying anything Activision (which stinks, I've got a lot of friends playing Diablo II right now). But since then I've been convinced that voting with your wallet is projecting someone else's problems onto consumers. It should not be our responsibility to make sure that companies and CEOs aren't assholes. This just shouldn't be factoring in.

I still won't be buying Activision/Blizard stuff, but there is a bigger problem here.

all the sjw's on these boards are hilarious ... you don't want to purchase products from a company with ten thousand employees, which had a dozen or so do unlawful or immoral things?

Put up or shut up. Don't use anything not made by yourself, nor eat any food not grown in your own backyard -- after all somebody in the supply chain probably pressured a woman or a man into unwanted sex.

Hypocrites.

But what do I do if I'm kind of a shitty person? Like not raping employees bad, but still, not great.

Eh, I doubt anti-sjw people like OP could even handle gardening without assaulting anyone.

"probably" != "known to have, and refuses to atone for"

When asked for a comment about the whole ABK problem during Christmas I responded to my father "At least I only killed people for money. I'm not like those animals. Pass the salt, please."

"PC culture" = I'm a bigot
"SJWs" = I'm a bigot
"wokeness" = I'm a bigot
"cancel culture has gone too far" = I'm a bigot
"I'm not [type of bigot], but..." = I'm a bigot
So, what you're saying is, and this is just a guess... ready_load$,8,1 is a bigot?

Capitalism. Capitalism is the bigger problem here. Voting with your wallet (i.e. withholding capital) is one of the few mechanisms consumers have to enact change in these organizations. The "think of the poor employees you're hurting" narrative is designed to minimize or eliminate that mechanism.

Don't quote the trolls please. Downvote, then block and move on.

Lego group didn't *have* to do this, but I'm glad they are. This has potential to be the single largest pressure point on this company yet. Licensing deals = $$$.

Until investors pressure major changes to upper management at this company, nothing will change. There is *no* reason Activision-Blizzard needs to be operated in this manner in this day and age, their response thus far has been pathetic. We aren't in the '90's anymore.

"Think of the poor employees" doesn't matter when they already fire them on a whim even when they are making profits.

I *want* to continue the lore and stories Blizzard have crafted. But I'm willing to wait for this company to get their shit together. If I miss out, or we simply never get a conclusion at all? Oh well... why should I lose sleep over it?

What's it like to be a racist? You're lumping 10,000 employees into the same bucket. You're a fuckwit.

wow the dumb is strong in here. I said "12 people out of 10,000 in a company did wrong, and therefore we shouldn't shame the rest of the 9,982"

Ars' reaction: "yes, we should. Just like we should hate all white people because some of them are racists."

You're pathetic children.
There's been a massive talent exodus at ABK. They paid below market wages trading on the prestige of their brand names as resume burnishers. That's over now. Their new model is "get hung up on because the pay scale is shit and the reputation is shit."

ABK engaged in some, at least by my understanding, illegal actions in an attempt to retain key personnel so they wouldn't lose several years of production (to no avail).

The average worker at ABK is going to find a job. It's going to take some time if they want to stay in game development, because the existing firms can't absorb everyone immediately. But they're all going to find an exit at some point. Which is fine.

Meanwhile ABK's release schedule looks like it was in a knife fight with Wolverine. Which is also good.
