Has Elon Musk given up on Mars?

Maybe he wants to go to the Moon or Mars so much because he thinks he can operate more autonomously there? I don't know what is in his head, of course. It seems to me that based on what I know about him, he craves the ability to act unilaterally. He's not alone in the regard, looking back...

More FDA drama: Top drug regulator calls it quits after 3 weeks

Every day we get closer to proving that Idiocracy was a prophetic documentary...

Mass firings at US health dept. partially reversed but still devastating

I don't feel that all Republicans are evil. It's the ones who are concerned with making everyone else live how they feel they should that worry me. That, and how so many in this country can't seem to grasp what is actually going on right now. I would guess most of the normal republican populace...

Broadcom’s prohibitive VMware prices create a learning “barrier,” IT pro says

"There is a lot of upside to migrating to the cloud. You don't have to worry about the physical datacenter, physical security, hardware, installation, support and fault tolerance aspects. They are "Not Your Problem"." I work in the risk side of Operations, and that doesn't ring true. In the...

Broadcom sends cease-and-desist letters to subscription-less VMware users

Oracle did that with Java, or something close to it, a few years ago. What was previously free became a need for a very pricey license agreement to allow for access to new versions and security updates.

Copying Musk, Trump admin offers federal workers buyouts to resign

I can validate this. My closest friend in the world told me how the federal system works (He is in it, and tried for a promotion recently), and it boggled my sheltered corpo mind how convoluted it is to have a shot at advancement.

A long, costly road ahead for customers abandoning Broadcom’s VMware

Sometimes being forced to make a change yields a huge benefit. I hope everyone deciding to make the change finds one.

Sony just released the first 8 minutes of Kraven the Hunter

This is definitely part of Sony's attempt at a live-action spiderverse. The first 8 minutes are pretty strong IMO, but as other posters have already said a strong open does not always a good movie make...

THC-tainted pizza sickens dozens in Wisc.; Owner blames oil bottle mix-up

I would have thought some THC and a tasty slice or two would go well together...

Despite stricter regulations, Europe has issues with tattoo ink ingredients

For the record, what you do with your skin is your business, as far as I am concerned. In my limited travels, I have seen artful and beautiful work as well as tattoos that make me wonder what the thinking was. I'm going to mind my own damn business either way. Robin-3's advice above about...

Despite stricter regulations, Europe has issues with tattoo ink ingredients

I've often wondered what it would be like to get and have a tattoo, but the more I read articles like this one, the less likely I am to actually get one.

Flying coach? At least you’ll be able to watch movies on an in-seat OLED TV soon

Amen to that. At 6'10" tall, I try to avoid air travel as much as possible, unless I splurge on seats with actual legroom. A high-pixel screen in front of me does little to offset the passenger in front of me jamming their seat back into my knees, which have no place to go in economy seating.

Mazda’s DMCA takedown kills a hobbyist’s smart car API tool

I am certainly unaware of the full breadth of security issues with this type of integration, but I am very security risk averse when it comes to these things, so I would never do something like this myself. It seems like these kinds of integrations are inevitably the way things are going, but...

Zack Snyder unveils extended teaser for his Netflix sci-fi saga Rebel Moon

It struck me more as a Warhammer 40K reference, due to their being named "The Imperium".

Fugitive with untreated tuberculosis continues to stump law enforcement

Good article, but I have no words to express how dismayed I am that this has dragged on as long as it has. I take it that no new cases of TB have been reported in Pierce or its neighboring counties in WA?

Comcast agents mistakenly reject some poor people who qualify for free Internet

In my opinion, this whole industry is a mighty mess as a consumer. I had one ISP for many years (Wide Open West), which sold off its business in my state (Ohio) to a different company (Breezeline). I cannot get a bandwidth upgrade to a higher tier without massively increasing my monthly cost...
