Epic submits wish list of Google reforms ahead of games store Android launch

Wow, why are all these comments on Google's side? Epic sucks, sure, but everything they want here seems good to me. But aside from all that, I don't really understand what money everyone is fighting over. I bought my first smartphone in 2011 (a little late to the game). I have never purchased...

Intel revives the MHz race with 6.2 GHz power-guzzling Core i9-14900KS

The specs page says 150W TDP, 253W recommend max power. I can't see 320W anywhere. https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/237504/intel-core-i9-processor-14900ks-36m-cache-up-to-6-20-ghz.html Note that the 253W is not a TDP. It's simply Intel's recommended value for PL2. You may...

Setting a default browser could get easier in future Windows 11 versions

If they're not going to fix it by putting it back to how it was in Windows XP, where there was a big list of file extensions and you could pick a program to use for each one, then color me uninterested. Like, what is a "browser"? What business has Windows with considering whether a given...

Stadia’s pivot to a cloud service has also been shut down

This. I really can't remember what happened, but it felt like Hangouts was shut down again every few months for years on end. I worked at Google from 2013-2016 so I saw all of the internal announcements, and we all used Hangouts heavily for work, but I still found it impossible to follow.

ChatGPT-style search represents a 10x cost increase for Google, Microsoft

Google needs to realise that search is a solved problem, and has been for 20 years. Not a single person on the planet who doesn't work for Google wants Google search to be any "better", except for removing the ads. It works perfectly. Just give me Wikipedia, StackOverflow, YouTube... maybe...

ArtStation artists stage mass protest against AI-generated artwork

Lol. Lucky what they think is completely irrelevant. Suck it, losers. I hope this revolution (which will never stop) brings about the death of copyright entirely. Now, most AI "art" isn't very good (and I put "art" in quotes because the AI isn't trying to actually achieve something or...

The angle at which dogs pee inspired optimal design for splash-free urinal

30 degrees? No it needs to be as close to 0 degrees as possible. Put a big sphere in the middle of the urinal and people can choose any angle they like. Unintelligent? Oh that's such a shame you've got piss on your pants.

New Go-playing trick defeats world-class Go AI—but loses to human amateurs

Hate to break it to you, but dying in a car accident due to human error is happening right now to multiple people.

Report: Nvidia plans price reduction for its rebranded 12GB RTX 4080 GPU

So, the "4080 12GB" name is going away, but the "4080 16GB" name isn't, right? Despite there being only one card with 4080 in its name, it will identify itself as "4080 16GB" forever? Decidedly suboptimal.

RIP to Microsoft Office, henceforth to be known as “Microsoft 365”

So is the non-365 version of Office already dead? All I want is Word, Excel and PowerPoint, installed entirely locally, that do not access the internet in any way, all rolled up in a nice torrent. If I was ever going to use Microsoft Google Docs why wouldn't I just use Google Google Docs instead?

UK challenges $69B Microsoft/Activision deal, citing potential harm to gamers

Why would anyone in the UK have any jurisdiction about what Microsoft and/or Activision does? What are they going to do, ban imports of their products?

Supply issues, Wi-Fi 7 hurting Wi-Fi 6E’s time in the spotlight

No letters please! The entire purpose of this new Wi-Fi numbering scheme was to fix the absolute jumble of letters and numbers we had before. I can just see them ITCHING to fuck up it again. No!

Two months in, Windows 11 is still a work in progress

Wake me up when they reinstate "Always show, never combine" - that's all I care about. If I wanted to use macOS I'd use macOS.

US Copyright Office OKs right-to-repair for video game console optical drives

Wait what? Are you telling me that opening up a video game console and doing whatever the hell you want in there is ILLEGAL?!!?! How did this happen? Who voted for this? What? No!

Activision claims Call of Duty’s new anti-cheat system won’t look at your files

I couldn't care less about cheaters. Getting killed by someone who's cheating and getting killed by someone who's way better than me are pretty much the same. Either way, I still suck at video games, and I never play online games so why am I even commenting here.
