M5 MacBook Air review: Still the best MacBook for almost everybody

How does it lack libre office compatibility? Wouldn’t that work just as well on a Neo as any other Mac?

New MacBook Airs come with M5, double the storage, and higher starting prices

I hope one day they put one of those USB-C ports on the other side of the MacBook air

The making of Apple TV’s Murderbot

It’s triad! 😭 my poor ears (Not Jenniffer Ouellette’s fault, they said it in the show. And I’m mostly joking)

Errant reference in macOS 15.2 seems to confirm M4 MacBook Airs for 2025

I hope they eventually move one of the USB-C ports to the other side

Apple overhauls its entire Windows app suite, including iCloud and Apple Music

It sounds like this doesn’t have it, but I am hoping for one day a better iCloud Photos syncing experience on PC than “dump every photo ever into one folder” like splitting into album subfolders would be nice but even having subfolders by year would be a huge improvement!

Apple partly halts Beeper’s iMessage app again, suggesting a long fight ahead

FYI as someone else mentioned earlier if you are pretty motivated to get iMessage on PC or Linux or Android (or web), I recommend Bluebubbles (website is Bluebubbles.app). You will need to use a Mac as a relay but you can get a used Mac mini for a couple hundred dollars and it works really well...

Nothing’s iMessage app was a security catastrophe, taken down in 24 hours

If anyone would like to be able to use iMessage on PC/Linux/Android/Web Browser, and is willing to spend some money on say, a used Mac mini, I recommend the application BlueBubbles (see BlueBubbles.app) (or AirMessage but I am less familiar with it and I like the BlueBubbles developers and their...

Update time: Apple releases iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS 16.1, plus macOS Ventura

Supposedly this is the update that will let you use battery percentage in the battery indicator for the iPhone mini

Apple introduces a totally redesigned 10th-gen iPad, announces M2 iPad Pro

If you can’t buy it because of price, you could wait an extra generation and then buy this one used? Or is it the home button and headphone jack you want

Apple introduces a totally redesigned 10th-gen iPad, announces M2 iPad Pro

I just looked at the new iPad page on Apple.com and checked pictures of all 4 sides, and I didn’t see one.

Apple introduces a totally redesigned 10th-gen iPad, announces M2 iPad Pro

As they add USB-C, they’ve been getting rid of headphone jacks. That means all current generation iPads no longer have headphone jacks, but the previous Gen iPad mini and base iPad (9th Gen) have lightning ports and headphone jacks. Which is too bad. I tried switching from a laptop to an iPad...

Does turning the air conditioning off when you’re not home save energy?

In the Georgia mini-split model, it uses slightly more energy with being off for 4 hours. How is this physically possible?

US regulators will certify first small nuclear reactor design

Except traditional nuclear power plants *can* load follow (they do it in France and Canada), it just wastes energy, and no one’s *built* these new SMRs yet so we don’t know if they will be cheaper- I hope they will but even if they are they are cheaper they are still going to be very capital...

US regulators will certify first small nuclear reactor design

I think you might be confusing NuScale with Terrapower. Terrapower is the Gates backed nuclear effort. Though it’s possible he is also funding NuScale, but if so he is less involved. NuScale is mostly owned by the engineering firm Fluor

US regulators will certify first small nuclear reactor design

HVDC is doing a lot of work in this scenario- I mean I’m not necessarily against it but it’s going to take a lot of work to get the cross region HVDC capacity to deal with seasonal fluctuations with 90+% renewable grids and we’ve barely started. In some cases the capital buildout required might...

US regulators will certify first small nuclear reactor design

Yeah it is complicated by the direct drive situation for sure. Wikipedia says they can be as big as 500 MW thermal.

I think naval reactors are around 50 MWe to 200 MWe

US regulators will certify first small nuclear reactor design

We have good solutions for used fuel disposal- there is so little we can store it on the site of the power plant and it’s not a big deal. We could have great solutions for fuel disposal, with either reprocessing into MOX fuel or waste burning salt reactors, just gotta allow/invest in those...
