Phishing attacks that defeat MFA are easier than ever. So what are we to do?

It reminds me of when malware intercepted the authentication for WoW during a time when Blizzard was outright refusing any account support for users with authenticators attached. Many at the time thought it was impossible for such a thing to happen. It took increasing numbers of reports of...

After typo-fixing delay, OnePlus Watch 3 launches with 50% higher price

Oh shit. Thank you for the heads up not to update my watch 4.

The kids are… maybe alright: Teen drug use hits new lows in ongoing decline

Interesting to see these stats on usage. Would be interesting to see if there is data on substance abuse. My school seems the odd ball with substance abuse going up by about four times and still remaining high. Access to alcohol and pills during the pandemic wasn't a problem for many of these...

There’s no M4 MacBook Air this week, but the 8GB M2 and M3 models are going away

Great news for my school's media program to save money. On another note the Apple's store default stock of only baseline models at least where I am has been an issue in events of needing emergency replacements with online orders being a week plus out and sometimes over two weeks.

Apple’s first Mac mini redesign in 14 years looks like a big aluminum Apple TV

One of my media cabinets has just 1U of space for the macmini. Come upgrade time will probably have to find a way to zip tie it between the side rails which makes access a pain.

PS5 home screen starts showing “coming soon” ads for already released content

There were reports of a similar issue earlier this year for xbox.

The MacBook Air gets bigger with new 15-inch model

Glad to see this option available now. Have some users at my org who justify having a larger laptop while didn't need the extra specs of the Pro line. Being lighter is also nice.

Microsoft wins battle with Sony as UK reverses finding on Activision merger

Looks like MS is still not quite free to move forward yet. I wonder if Nvidia has had a hand in this.

Epson’s bricked printers highlight the industry’s reparability problem

Interesting. I've used 3rd party cartridges in even current HP lasers due to teachers just buying their own not knowing the school supplies. HP however doesn't allow toner level reporting with 3rd party cartridge's. An annoying trend across multiple brands I've been seeing is the WIFI printers...

Safari has 1 billion users, but it still can’t touch Chrome

Been a long time fan of Firefox while in the past five years while working in schools with a lot of websites our teachers use at this point gets primarily supported and tested on Chrome unless it is some dated web app that will only work on Explorer which only a few select users have to use...

Further testing shows new PS5’s smaller, lighter heatsink keeps console cooler

I work during the bulk of the drops. I have tried more than a few times despite that and no luck so far. I would love to be able to just drop my name in a queue and not deal with the worry and stress of watching for drops and being available. I'd even sign up for a bundle. Hey retailers, you...

Google breaks SMS on many Android phones, is rolling back changes now

Same here. My S9 on T-Mobile was working properly. Was initially concerned seeing this news as I had just ran the update. I wonder the types of phones and carriers actually impacted. Edit: At least from other reports it appears to be impacting LG, Motorola, and TCL phones while not all of the...

Google Pay relaunch transforms it into a full-fledged financial service

There has been a lot of TiFU posts of people getting accounts banned from Venmo and Paypal for similar. Even accounts of Paypal blocking the transaction and keeping all money on the account all because someone joked about drug or black market like behavior. With Google though it is...

New Mac ransomware is even more sinister than it appears

Unfortunately in my support experience of even the tech savvy users in tech savvy industries there are users who still get tricked to download malicious software disguised as legitimate. The companies that care about security are going to have measures in place to keep users from installing such...

Chrome extensions with 33 million downloads slurped sensitive user data

I noticed many on the list from users as well and thankfully had removed them. A few when asked said they was promoted from websites to install it. Looking forward to when we shift to a whitelist.

Despite complaints, Epic stands behind Fortnite’s “anyone can win” mechs

Bungie going the exact opposite and alienating their core playerbase almost killed Destiny with the launch of D2. Also not sure how adding a bot to mix up the gameplay is even remotely comparable to the major changes Bungie did to Destiny with D2 that led to so much heat from even Arstechnica.
