Sutskever strikes AI gold with billion-dollar backing for superintelligent AI

As I keep telling people, current foundational/llm model architectures are limited by the fundamental AI principle that deep learning models today are simply complex pattern recognition machines. They map your input (eg a prompt) to the the 'best' place output space. They have no real...

Musk’s new Grok upgrade allows X users to create largely uncensored AI images

As a end-stage PhD student in the field of AI, it is horrifying that such a model has been released without appropriate safety and bias analyses. This is a terrible idea and while I hope it gets taken down, I very much doubt that will be the case.

Trump allies want to “Make America First in AI” with sweeping executive order

A a PhD student researcher in the field of AI (in Europe), this is horrifying. There are so. Many. Problems. With AI models, and nobody seems to know or care about them. The way the hype is blinding people to the reality of how limited and biased current models are absolutely unreal.

Real, actual Markdown support is arriving in Google Docs, not a moment too soon

As a potentially historic hurricane season looms, can AI forecast models help?

Broadcom-owned VMware kills the free version of ESXi virtualization software

Note that this limited free version provided a vital lifeline for those wanting to learn skills in VMWare, who could potentially go on to recommend it in a business context & net VMWare lots of money. This is, to my understanding, the reason why free versions of software like this exists. It's...

AI comes for your PC’s keyboard as Microsoft adds dedicated Copilot key

I'll be rather upset if this replaces right alt. I use right alt as a compose key on Linux, and on Windows too with 3rd party software the few times I've used it. Should they not seek feedback from people before changing something so fundamental as a the keyboard layout?
