“I’m not for sale”: Farmers refuse to take millions in data center deals

This reminds me of the scene from Star Wars where Qui-Gon offers 20,000 Republic dataries (credits), and Watto flatly refuses, saying: “Republic credits are no good out here. I need something more real.” For many people, hard money (land, cattle, gold) has much more value than fiat, regardless...

Google plans to stop using insecure SMS verification in Gmail

Yes... but after trying to use it this way for the last 5 years, I have learned the hard way that a significant number of financial services reject its usage. They are somehow able to detect it is a VoIP services instead of a cell number and reject it accordingly.

VMware patches 3 critical vulnerabilities in multiple product lines

It always bugs me when this isn't directly stated in an article. All 3 have been fixed in the same version (see table further down): https://support.broadcom.com/web/ecx/support-content-notification/-/external/content/SecurityAdvisories/0/25390

Google plans to stop using insecure SMS verification in Gmail

Also why TF does every single one of my financial institutions still only allow for SMS 2-factor? Has anyone used https://cloakedwireless.com ? Definitely seems to be addressing a legit need. I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

The Ranger XP Kinetic is the ultimate electric UTV—at a high price

Totally a matter of preference. We had an ICE UTV before we had this one. The reason we have a farm is to be able to spend time outside as a family. When the UTV is so loud we can't hear one another and is pumping fumes into our child's lungs as they pick berries nearby, its not ideal for our...

The Ranger XP Kinetic is the ultimate electric UTV—at a high price

I have owned one for a year for use on our farm. It is wonderful! The only thing I would change is to make the throttle more sensitive from 0. It has SO much torque that I regularly spin the wheels (all 4!) even when I'm trying not to. My Model Y has insane torque too, but the accelerator pedal...

Passkey technology is elegant, but it’s most definitely not usable security

I can't speak in any informed way about any scenario other than my own, which is: Bitwarden on every possible combination of PC/Mac/iPhone and Firefox/Chrome/Safari. For me, Passkeys have always "just worked". Bitwarden handles them seamlessly across any OS/browser combination that I have tried.

Report: US considers banning TP-Link routers over security flaws, ties to China

Ubiquiti does still require an account if you want to enable 2-factor security for your local accounts. It is totally unnecessary and unreasonable. For that reason alone, over the last 3 years we have migrated all Ubiquiti gear at customers sites to TP-Link. TP-Link lets us do 2-factor locally...

Dodge keeps true to its roots with the first electric Charger muscle car

I'm still annoyed off that my gas car doesn't make horse sounds. The lack of horse sounds makes me uncomfortable transitioning to a car.

$1 phone scanner finds seven Pegasus spyware infections

iOS and its file system are incredibly locked down, so I don't understand how iVerify (or any "security" app) can do any kind of meaningful scan on any iOS devices. It simply doesn't have the access it needs. Without details about how it actually works, I can only assume that is more of a...

Microsoft pushes full-screen ads for Copilot+ PCs on Windows 10 users

This. This is my world. The best we can do is install 0patch and keep them on isolated VLANs.

Here’s how to survive your relatives’ uninformed anti-EV rant this Thanksgiving

I recently overheard a man speaking loudly to someone else that he would never buy an electric car because you can't charge them in the rain. It was so obvious to him that everyone would get electrocuted. I don't think you can even have a conversation with someone like this, it is better that we...

New SMB-friendly subscription tier may be too late to stop VMware migrations

F VMWare. They have shown us their true colors. My company is moving all of our customers off of VMWare and on to Proxmox. I was hesitant to switch initially but there is no way I will ever consider VMWare a legitimate option again under Broadcom's ownership. Proxmox has been great so far, and...

Home users can only buy one year of extra Windows 10 updates—for $30 per PC

Just think about the incredible national security threat this is going to present (ending Win10 updates). To end security updates on millions of PCs in daily at home, at small businesses, and even at many government agencies that haven't updated... well its going to be a total shit show. I...

A year after Broadcom’s VMware buy, customers eye exit strategies

From the article: "For the community college, the biggest challenge in finding VMware alternatives is the need to find a working alternative while continuing to maintain reliable backups, according to Westendorf." Veeam is arguably one of the best and most popular backup tools for VMWare (and...
