Under a Paramount-WBD merger, two struggling media giants would unite

It worked out so well with DEC and Compaq.

Netflix quietly drops support for casting to most TVs

It's damned aggravating and I tend to give up if I have to resort to using the remote to enter text. If your TV has USB ports, pick up a cheap keyboard and deal with entering search items that way. Move the USB dongle to what set you need to enter text.

Senators to appropriators: Leave space shuttle Discovery in Smithsonian

I figured that the reason for the move was, basically, Texas getting braggin' rights for having a space shuttle in their state. Then I saw the mention of "admission fee" and it all made sense: someone stands to make money off having the shuttle in Houston.

You should care more about the stabilizers in your mechanical keyboard—here’s why

My '93 Model M with the buckling spring clicking works like a charm. I collected a bunch of these when some IBM desktop systems were destined for recycling. I'm set for life in the rare event that one of them dies on me. I keep a spare handy to swap in when I need to pop off all the keys of one...

After Kirk shooting, Utah governor calls social media a “cancer.” Will we treat it like one?

The Utah Gov is certainly playing up his fifteen minutes of fame.

Scientists: It’s do or die time for America’s primacy exploring the Solar System

There some in this administration whose heads would explode at the thought of diverting just one dollar from their ethic cleansing efforts.

Firmware update hinders Echelon smart home gym equipment’s ability to work offline

It just as easy to tell when it's done when it stops making noise. Who needs to know the exact time the dishwasher will finish up any way? Stupid design features added just because.

Firmware update hinders Echelon smart home gym equipment’s ability to work offline

That was why I bought a CycleOps fluid trainer for my bike, moved the cycle computer sensor to the back wheel, and avoided any of the new-fangled cycling foolishness like Pelotons. Do I need to have a complete log on the internet of how much I've "ridden" in the past N months? Heck no. Who does?

Relocation of space shuttle Discovery may hinge on “Big Beautiful Bill”

How in the hell would something like relocating the Space Shuttle be allowed in a reconciliation bill? Did a couple of pages of the Bill get stuck together and the Parlimentarian missed that?

Drugmaker CEO to testify on “outrageously” priced weight-loss drugs

I've found that to be the case when I visit, say, my podiatrist where I'm there to have a single bit of care. Hospital care is provided by a lot of organizations contracted to provide care. Shopping around for the best price for anesthesia, 24-hour nursing, etc. would be mind-numbingly...

Comcast, hemorrhaging subscribers, to bundle Apple TV+, Netflix, Peacock & cable

We find that the public library has all the content we can possibly consume. For free. We might need to wait a bit for it to be available, that all.

Why canned wine can smell like rotten eggs while beer and Coke are fine

And nobody in the industry thought about this before producing smelly wine? Shees!

Two more dead as patients report horrifying details of eye drop outbreak

My ophthalmologist asked me what I did for a living when I complained about dry eye. Her response, when mentioned IT, was on the order of "blink more often". We tend to stare at screens for extended periods and not blink as frequently as we should. I use OTC drops occasionally (usually after...

ChatGPT on your PC? Meta unveils new AI model that can run on a single GPU

Sad. Because, as Barbie once said, "math is hard" (especially the dreaded fractions), even the technical press dumbs their copy down to use the "10 times smaller" crap instead of simply saying "one-tenth the size/amount". (Sorry but I've seen too much of this today.)

Calculate commuting costs with TomTom’s 2022 Traffic Index

Hmm... the first one listed is $2.9M for 1,600 sq.ft. And this is supposed to solve a commute problem? Oooo-kay.

Calculate commuting costs with TomTom’s 2022 Traffic Index

Where did they get the data? 12-18 minutes as an average commute in the Chicago area? In my experience, it's more like an hour and 18 minutes. This looks like another "study" backed by big real estate developers who'll pass it along to companies that want to force their employees to return to...

Risk of diabetes rises 58% after COVID, even amid omicron, study finds

You mean the chemical soup that our bodies are exposed to every day? Nah... can't be that. (Or so the chemical industry reps always tell us.)

Musk fired top engineer for explaining why his tweets views are down

Sounds like Agile's -- and Elon's -- running amok at Twitter. Why anyone's bother to stay at the company and working for this lit short-fuse a-hole is a mystery.

OnePlus 11 comes to the US with killer $699 price tag

Indeed. No SD slot is a show stopper for me. A single camera that allows me to send an image in a text to the missus asking "Is this what you wanted me to get?" and I'm good.
