    Is Firefox OK?

This exists now. It’s a pain to use though compared to what Google provides. Or was. I haven’t had time to dig back into it after it went out of “beta”

Google ninth attempt at a messaging service will be based on RCS

Hangouts Classic is getting rolled into Hangouts Chat, https://gsuite.google.com/products/chat/ I'm still not convinced they planned to release Chat outside G-Suite. They are just doing it because their consumer stuff failed. It's clearly an attempt at a slack-ish competitor and not really...

Google’s constant product shutdowns are damaging its brand

This is where I am sorta. I have folks that have used this, but it's aging (hell, just trying to talk to new people using mobile only is... not seemingly possible?). I use GSuite at work, and have seen the new Hangouts Chat. It's clearly enterprise focused and not really appealing from a...

Fitbit goes after new wrists with less expensive $159 Versa Lite smartwatch

Is the vibration motor the same? The features they removed are stuff I don't actually use, so I actually welcome this lower price (granted, too late for me).

Kindle Paperwhite 2018 review: The best-value Kindle gets even better

I'm surprised they went bluer on the LEDs. That was my biggest let down for this with all the focus of trying to cut back blue light in the evenings. But also happy that page turning is noticeably faster. It hasn't been an issue, but more an annoyance.

Introducing Ars Pro, the new Ars Technica subscription program

Not sure, but the feature comment says you'll be sent a coupon? So maybe you can pay the difference. I'd be curious about this myself. Though, probably won't have USB-C on my desktops for a while.

Don’t trust OAuth: Why the “Google Docs” worm was so convincing

The thing is, it looks close enough. That's all you really need right now to phish. However, I'd argue the to: field of hhhhhhhhh is the dead giveaway. Who has that as an email address?

Google ruins the Assistant’s shopping list, turns it into a big Google Express ad

Feedback. It's probably the only way Google will listen. Lists and reminders were my actually a big consideration for me. Yes, 1st world luxury problems, but it's incredibly convenient to just shout "add eggs to grocery list" when I see it in the fridge (I was hoping to get specific list adding...

Xiaomi reportedly wants to build its own SoCs, break free from Qualcomm

Doesn't Intel have a license to build ARM chips now? Granted, they were targeting something later, I think. I was hoping that announcement could mean Google would actually finally push into this as I feel they sorta need to.

Google Home review: A step forward for hotwords, a step backward in capability

Pretty much the same here. The rest is lists and events. At least there's lists (I'm assuming with Keep... haven't read in depth). I really do not understand this. They're fragmenting Assistant for some strange reason? The only upside is it sounds like it has good speakers? I want to...

Google Allo is incomplete, but Assistant is the company’s future

The sign up process... that off putting from the get go. Google, you know everything about me, why do I need to pick a new avatar? What gets me is that in Allo, it actually uses your contacts goolge avatars!! I don't know if it's pulling from my contacts on my phone or actually pulling from...

Chip-based credit cards are old news; why is the US only rolling them out now?

That's not entirely true, Target's Red Card/VISA is set up for chip and PIN. Which is frustrating in that it's now a mix of solutions.

T-Mobile’s data cap exemption for video gets FCC chairman’s approval

See, this is what I'm curious about. Free to join, but what does it cost to do the implementation for it to work? That is certainly not free, and seemingly not trivial. YouTube is currently out because they can't identify video packets over HTTPS (at least, that's what was said). I mean, I'm...

Amazon’s 2015 Fire TV: Finally, Amazon gets the streaming box right

No mention of the lack of Google Play Movies/TV as a con. Is this because there really isn't anyone using that? I'm rather curious if I'm one of the few who don't entirely mind buying digital movies and tv shows just to not have the physical media (granted, I don't buy a lot to begin with).

Roku finally gets into 4K with new streaming box, updated software

Hrm, no update on software for the current Roku 2? Doesn't it run the same internals as the Roku 3? I was contemplating grabbing one, but if it's not getting updated, not too sure.

    Android 6.0 Marshmallow, thoroughly reviewed

I was eager to see what Now on Tap can do. But not at the expense of getting to Google Now cards from anywhere :(

Office 2016: the same old Office, but now with more collaboration

I should have been clear, we're in an AD environment.

Office 2016: the same old Office, but now with more collaboration

Network file shares. I was kinda hoping they were able to do something for Windows shops without having to get into SharePoint.

Office 2016: the same old Office, but now with more collaboration

Is collaboration still tied to OneDrive or SharePoint? I had hoped they figured out something for regular file shares. edit: I should clarify, this would be within an AD environment, not just one off file shares.

    iOS 9, thoroughly reviewed

I like to know without having to look at the shift key that is under my thumb. If anything, the visual indicator should be away from where I'd have my thumbs. There's just a better assurance that you are typing what you want with the keyboard case. It's also not clear to some people shift being...
