macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 update will “upgrade” your M5’s CPU to new “super” cores

So new architectures will need an entire dedicated core just to decide which core type of the ever so increasing number to use… I long for the simple days of Intel SpeedStep…

The first cars bold enough to drive themselves

People seem to have rather strong views on this article... I kind of enjoyed it. Also learned something about 'em dashes. ;)

What if riders don’t close a robotaxi door after a ride? Try DoorDash.

"The door is ajar." No it's not, it's a door 🤪

Why is Bezos trolling Musk on X with turtle pics? Because he has a new Moon plan.

NASA finally acknowledges the elephant in the room with the SLS rocket

What mark625 said. Two possible conclusions: 1. NASA of today is not NASA of 50 years ago 2. Hydrogen does not work.

Google court filings suggest Google’s ChromeOS has an expiration date

As an American, I'ma call it Al. No, not AI, Al... Then wait 15 minutes or less for its successor, Boron. (Hey Ars, can you pick a better website font with a distinguishable lower case L and an upper case i?)

China bans all retractable car door handles, starting next year

If only the door handles were a problem... It appears that water has gotten in the supposedly sealed door hinges that cannot be lubricated and has promptly frozen, so the rear doors of my car are suddenly very hard to open. It's brilliant!

Apple patches ancient iOS versions to keep iMessage, FaceTime, other services working

These devices are still used in less affluent places so any support that Apple extends to them is greatly appreciated by their users.

EVs remain a niche choice in the US, according to survey

I read SDV and think switched digital video... Need to reflash my software defined human chip with the updated acronyms list 🤪

The 10 best vehicles Ars Technica drove in 2025

The new Nissan Leaf made it to #1! That is a rather high praise and perhaps means that folks interested in an EV should definitely take a look at it.

Does swearing make you stronger? Science says yes.

Next time you tawk to someone from Joysey and feel offended, have some compassion, damn it! They must be in constant pain 🤪

Thank you for that link! It's quite succinct.

After years of resisting it, SpaceX now plans to go public. Why?

Time is the resource Elon has stated he doesn't sufficiently have. Perhaps this is about time, not just funding.

NASA confirms that Starliner’s next mission will be cargo only

Starliner-1 may be relegated as a cargo mission, but it is carrying it to, docking with, and undocking from the ISS that is crewed. And the ISS crew will have to enter, unload, and load Startliner-1. It appears that NASA has a sufficient confidence in the craft. How can we/they know if they...

The Mac calculator’s original design came from letting Steve Jobs play with sliders for ten minutes

Teaching people how to fish and giving them ownership of their environment… Why have we lost this, have surrendered it to big corp?

Neutron rocket’s debut slips into mid-2026 as company seeks success from the start

Living in Virginia this news is indeed disappointing. Watching launches from Wallops while braving the state bird of the island — the mosquito all night is an experience like no other.

How to declutter, quiet down, and take the AI out of Windows 11 25H2

Perhaps people with light computing needs can also give ChromeOS (Flex) a try. It’s the best of both worlds, cloud integration and Linux stability without the Microsoft/Apple nonsense. I just got tired of paying Microsoft licenses for what is now defacto malware.

Windows 10 support “ends” today, but it’s just the first of many deaths

Windows is a gaming OS -- you have to constantly play games with Microsoft to keep it running. The fallacy of losing support and security on Windows is the assumption that it ever had any. In fact Windows Update has been the single biggest threat to my machines, from wiping off documents...
