A reunion with Futurama, because only one show used climatic math theorems

The episode commentary that is available on the DVDs is excellent and needs to be listened to if you’re a fan. The writers, producers, and actors all participate, and I learned many things about the series that I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

From SimCity to, well, SimCity: The history of city-building games

That's a great description. I thought it was a really cool game, but could never figure out how to succeed. Did anyone else play SimCity 3000 on a Mac? It was terribly unstable for me, and was a huge letdown after SimCity 2000.

Gallery: Ars tours the battleship USS Iowa (BB-61)

Waiting in Pottery Barn for my wife, laughing so hard I'm crying, and the sales lady thinks I'm crazy. Thanks for that.

Anatomy of a hack: How crackers ransack passwords like “qeadzcwrsfxv1331”

I was just about to ask if I'm the only one who uses something like Password Safe.

Looking for a cheap monitor to pair with my x220

I hope you don't mind if I hijack the thread, but which dock are you using? I've considered maxing out my X220 and tossing my desktop.

What was your longest gaming session?

I sat down to play Hearts of Iron 2 in the morning and didn't get up until well past dark. Operation Barbarossa takes a LOT of time.

Got new mSATA SSD, used Lenovo restore, now I have SYSTEM_DRV partition...

If you do make a recovery disk, make sure you test it before blowing away the recovery partition. I made two recovery disks and neither worked when I needed them to.

Android users: These may be Droids you're looking for

I'm looking for a phone with a 3.2" screen to replace my HTC Aria. I really dislike anything larger.

A thermostat that learns? Three months with the Nest

I'm the opposite outlier. I have a programmable thermostat that hasn't been changed since the previous owners moved out over four years ago. I set the temperature by hand. It may be worth checking with your local power company to see if they have any energy saver deals. CPS in San Antonio will...

What's your favorite screen size for a portable laptop?

I love my Lenovo X220 and loved my X31. Besides being a great size, here's more anecdotal evidence for the ThinkPad: I dropped it, I stepped on it, I nearly set it on fire and it kept going for over six years.

    Backup strategies

I use Backblaze. I don't notice any slowdown, but I do hear tons of hard drive thrashing when it's coming up with the list of files that need to be backed up. It got to be so annoying that I created a .bat to kill the Backblaze service when it got too annoying and another to start it back up...

    backyard cinema

We did this a few times at a friends house. White bed sheets hung from the eaves worked well, but you could see lines from the siding through the sheets. Doubling up might have helped. To continuum's point, it was all about the company not the image quality.

Turning off repeat during audio playback on Xbox 360

I enjoy listening to complete albums on my Xbox, either streaming from my PC or from a CD, but I don’t like how it automatically repeats once the last track finishes. I’m pretty sure I’ve been through all the options twice, but I can’t find a way to disable this. Does anyone know how to disable...

People have fond memories of Mac OS 9?

    I recall Systems 7.1P, 7.5.3, 7.5.5, 7.6, 9.0.4, and 9.1 fondly. (I'm not sure how I missed OS 8.) However, I also miss Windows XP SP3 whenever I deal with Windows 7. I guess I'm weird.

You're welcome to use my X31 for parts. It died for reasons unknown and I've been looking for a good recipient.

    ThinkPad X220 thoughts? Users report!

How would I go about reinstalling Windows if I wanted to, but without using the recovery partition? I bought Win 7 Pro 64-bit for my desktop PC, and could use that DVD, but I have no license key (as far as I know) to use with the X220.

    ThinkPad X220 thoughts? Users report!

Here's my purchase. The one thing that was really disappointing about my X31 was it's inability to really drive the screen and my LCD at 1280x1024. The X220 runs my 1920x1080 LCD over DisplayPort very well. I may have to give this a try as a desktop replacement.

    ThinkPad X220 thoughts? Users report!

No, I used the one with my X31 almost always at home when loading software and occasionally for burning stuff. I'm sure an external drive is the cheaper alternative, but the UltraBase is so nice and compact for the few times it needs to travel.
