Netflix will show generative AI ads midway through streams in 2026

My work locks our computers down a ton yet also sucks at blocking ads. I just took a screenshot of the article and ads and did a little math. Within the browser window, ads were 57% of the screenshot while the article itself was just 4%.

The key moment came 38 minutes after Starship roared off the launch pad

How are you not going to convert this to m/s, the international dV standard?

Flying coach? At least you’ll be able to watch movies on an in-seat OLED TV soon

It’s hard to care about the quality of the screen when the system doesn’t work well or has a very limited selection. On my last flight, I got excited to see Battlestar Galactica was available. It turns out, it was only 4 episodes from the middle of season 3. Every show was like that.

Dealmaster: Early Black Friday 2023 deals

I’m skeptical of all the “was $X” parts. Amazon told me the AirTags 4-pack in my cart increased in price to $79.99.

Rocket Report: Blue Origin seeks to go international; au revoir Ariane 5

Haven’t been on Twitter but their website’s homepage features a photo of the rocket partially assembled being held by a student.

Slow Roads offers a chill, endless driving experience in your browser

A good simulator of needing to go to the bathroom but there are no other roads and nowhere to stop.

Andor first impressions: Star Wars inches toward the best of modern adult TV

I’ve only watched the first episode and I’m not sure why I’m supposed to be interested. I know who he is already but other than that there was nothing very compelling.

Legislation requires NASA to build SLS test article after initial flights

The pessimist in me says the test article is to determine what went wrong if one of these billion dollar boondoggles blows up.

Here’s why it’s high time for a minivan renaissance

I love my minivan. It holds far more people or stuff in comfort than any SUV I’ve seen.

The ionizer in your kid’s school may not do much to fight COVID

US law for things that aren’t FDA-reviewed drugs seems to boil down to “do what you want as long as no one gets hurt” while EU law seems to generally say “prove this won’t hurt anyone before you can sell it”. I’ve also seen it described as a US blacklist vs EU whitelist.

Frontier raises sneaky “Internet Infrastructure Surcharge” from $4 to $7

A local furnace and ac company is running an ad that says “We’ll give you a furnace for only $995” and “We’ll throw in the furnace for only $995 when you buy the matching AC”. That’s not what giving is!

Frontier raises sneaky “Internet Infrastructure Surcharge” from $4 to $7

Well, that’s only true if you ignore the Netflix On Us perk. My T-Mobile bill has gone up twice because T-Mobile forgot what “on us” means.

Captain Janeway—and Kate Mulgrew—coming back to Star Trek in 2021

My content blockers are now literally blocking the content. Fuck advertising. Ads are ruining everything, even progressive websites like this.

11:50pm ET Wednesday Update Shouldn’t that be AM?

Toxic hand sanitizers have blinded and killed adults and children, FDA warns

You’d know the answer if you read more than just the headline.

Google’s former advertising VP starts a subscriber-only search engine

I’m going to need more convincing. I currently get reward points to use Bing and just redeemed some for a Starbucks card. So you’re going to have to convince me not only to pay, but to not be paid.

Cox slows Internet speeds in entire neighborhoods to punish any heavy users

That makes me really appreciate my Fios plan, 200/200 for only $39.99/month. It is a steal compared to cable!

Rocket Report: A new Starship moves to the pad, Iran’s surprise launch

Not only that, but only parts of that plane are useful. A satellite intended to serve Europe doesn’t do any good if it isn’t near Europe.

With demand surging, Amazon signals month-long deliveries for some items

They must have miscategorized my dog food. It won’t ship until April 21. Fortunately, it is also sold locally.

Guidemaster: Ars picks its favorite tech gifts you can buy for under $50

The “free-floating” part is the whole point. I like my $200 Bose wired headphones that work just fine and I have a dongle. What I don’t have is a wireless option, which things like this BT device do.
