Water utility announces it’s ditching fluoride—then reveals it did so years ago

Looking forward to the data from dental insurers - though it may be that not enough time has passed for a strong effect to be evident. Any epidemiologists here who can weigh in?

BRINC’s new police drone uses Starlink, carries Narcan, chases vehicles at 60mph

Not to diminish all the other issues but they do note it can carry EpiPens and Narcan, at least. There are a couple of occasions when getting an EpiPen quickly would have been lovely for me.

In depth with Windows 11 Recall—and what Microsoft has (and hasn’t) fixed

The issue forefront in my mind is, why would someone want this? If you want a screenshot, take a screenshot.

On a sort of a tangent, great job on correctly naming confabulations!

NASA sidelines Cygnus spacecraft after damage in transit to launch site

Seriously, is there any information on where and how it got damaged? The explanation in the article was pretty vague.

Solar power from space? Actually, it might happen in a couple of years.

Is it just me, or is this a bad idea because 1. I don't care what they say, you can't promise the beam or whatever is going to go astray and damage something / someone. If not by accident, then maybe as an act of war. 2. Why ADD energy to Earth, when we already have more solar energy than we...

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

I'm curious about Boar's Head's other facilities - was this one an exception for some reason, or is it just how they do business?

Texas surgeon accused of secretly blocking patients from getting transplants

I don't know the volume of requests, but it might be reasonable to have two surgeons make the judgment of eligibility, blind from each other's ruling. Or a committee of three or more discussing the cases to decide. Given the stakes, it might be worth the effort.

Fossil smartwatches go extinct: Company quits Wear OS ecosystem

They never mentioned Ticwatch - not the most elegant smartwatch by far, but reasonably priced and they did the job.

Turning down holiday invites isn’t going to obliterate your social life

Agreed, 100%. This is the kind of thing that is maybe a good start in a line of research but gets overblown by the press (and sometimes the article authors). It would be REALLY hard to measure this kind of thing to realistically represent what happens in vivo, but sometimes "the best we could...

1,600 miles on a single charge? Student-built EV sets new world record

Did this slip through the editing process?. It is riddled with confused language and grammatical errors. It reads like a high school essay and is far from your usual standards.

Headed to space today: Test hardware for a solar power plant

Sending more energy down to a planet already heating up seems like a bad idea to me. It's less than trivial now, but if it were to get big, it could add to the existing issues. There are several ways to store solar energy overnight, beyond batteries, under active development. Why not use more...

20-sided smart dice over the rainbow: Ars tests $39 LED-filled Pixels Dice

They look like fun. And, in an article about dice for fantasy games, other RPGs, etc., why not?
