The US military just released a bunch of UAP files, but there’s no there there

Sometimes I think the surest sign that extraterrestrial life exists is that none of it has tried to contact us. (Calvin & Hobbes)

Apple has finally discontinued the Mac Pro desktop after years of fitful effort

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I though the trash can was dramatic and stupid. It "innovatively" got rid of the best things about the Mac Pro. Now I have an M2 Pro Mini--which I like very much--but with an assortment of external devices and their attendant cables, power bricks and wall...

No fooling: NASA targets April 1 for Artemis II launch to the Moon

My best uneducated guess is that is has to do with ambient lighting; looking at the table of launch windows, an April 2 launch window would probably span a sunset.

A fentanyl vaccine is about to get its first major test

Just spitballing before the caffeine hits, but perhaps the target for this is someone leaving a rehab facility (after a successful stay) to help guard against a relapse.

An electric car that’s faster than F1 around Monaco? That’s the idea.

I remember seeing the Chaparral 2J when I was young and thought "that is the ugliest car ever" and while he aesthetics in these artist drawings are better I still hate the idea.

Trump’s UCLA deal: Pay us $1B+, and we can still cut your grants again

Cognitive dissonance. People believe that they want to believe. Some rural hospital will close and people there will still say it's Biden's fault because he did something or other.

World-famous primatologist Jane Goodall dead at 91

I have her autograph on a print of that Far Side cartoon. I got the impression she'd signed quite a few of them.

35 percent of VMware workloads expected to migrate elsewhere by 2028

If you think of Broadcom as a tech company, sure. If you think of them as an M&A company it doesn't matter; when they've squeezed all the value out of VMware they'll sell off the IP and move on to the next thing. I would wager they have been scouting for that next thing for a good while already.

Delta’s AI spying to “jack up” prices must be banned, lawmakers say

If you are thinking along these lines, I would say that unless Delta has trouble booking seats--which doesn't seem to be a problem these days-- why offer cheap flights to folks with lower incomes? Using the AI will ensure that only the wealthier get those tickets and shazam! Delta increases...

White House unveils sweeping plan to “win” global AI race through deregulation

So the key to the USA being able to "maintain unquestioned and unchallenged global technological dominance" is killing the NSF, gutting the NIH and NASA, and stopping research grants to universities BUT letting AI companies do whatever the fuck they want, consequences be damned? This is the...

More VMware cloud partners axed as Broadcom launches new invite-only program

Yes, I do. I also think they don't care. If you think of Broadcom as a tech company, these moves do not make sense. If you think of Broadcom as an M&A company, they absolutely do.

More VMware cloud partners axed as Broadcom launches new invite-only program

I'm not. Really, no one should be astonished. The red flags were waving long ago.

Spies hack high-value mail servers using an exploit from yesteryear

I used alpine earlier this morning to check mail for postmaster. It does the job!

Spies hack high-value mail servers using an exploit from yesteryear

I still run mine as well and it really hasn't been a burden. In addition, while my employer does make use of Gmail I still maintain an on-prem set of what my director likes to call "legacy mail" servers and, honestly, it doesn't take up much of my time.

Trump is killing broadband grants because some of them help minorities

What did blobfish ever do to deserve that?

Tesla, I would be twice as motivated for half the price. Have your people contact my people.
